An honorable member of the Coffee Shop Has Just Posted the Following:
todayonline.com Volunteer stalwart charged with murder of China engineer Published: 3:04 PM, July 21, 2016 SINGAPORE — A happy-go-lucky person with a zest for life — she shared a video of herself skydiving in Melbourne in December last year online — Ms Cui Yajie, an engineer from Tianjin working in Singapore, was known to be sociable and outgoing. So when it emerged that she had been reported missing after not turning up for work last Tuesday, those who knew her quickly shared the information on social media, seeking her safe return. Their hopes were dashed barely a week later, when Ms Cui’s remains were found on Wednesday night (July 20), near a deserted road in Lim Chu Kang. On Thursday (July 21), Mr Leslie Khoo Kwee Hock, 48, was charged in the State Courts with murdering her. Mr Khoo, who works at a laundry service company, is accused of murdering Cui on July 12 between 8am and 10.11am at Gardens by the Bay East. Ms Cui, 31, a graduate of the University of Southampton, is said to have worked for a semi-conductor firm as an engineer, according to information shared on Chinese social media website Chuansong. The company she worked for is located at the Solaris building on Fusionpolis Walk. According to the police, Ms Cui had not reported for work since July 12. She was last seen wearing a black blouse and a green skirt at Fusionpolis Walk on July 11, at about 9.15pm. A public appeal was issued on July 15, and Ms Cui’s friends and colleagues had spread the news of her disappearance on social media. Finding the circumstances of her case suspicious, officers from the police’s Clementi Division and those from the Criminal Investigation Department and Police Intelligence Department launched an investigation. (Photo of Cui Yajie via Singapore Police) Their inquiries led them to establish the identity of Mr Khoo, who was arrested on Wednesday. On that same day, Mr Khoo led the police to Lim Chu Kang Lane 8 where the remains, believed to be that of Ms Cui, were discovered. In 2012, Mr Khoo was featured in The New Paper for his work as a volunteer who delivered hampers to the needy before Christmas, together with his wife. He had spent six months in jail in 2004 after being convicted of criminal breach of trust, and was sent to jail for another 16 months in 2011 for a similar offence. In prison, he found God and became a changed man, he said. He had described his former self to The New Paper as someone who liked to “gamble, smoke and drink”, and who committed adultery. Mr Khoo will be remanded for a week until July 28. He will then return to court. If convicted, he faces the death penalty. Click here to view the whole thread at www.sammyboy.com. |
