A former staff member of the Church of Singapore (Bukit Timah), who planted cameras in public toilets and tried to sell the clips online was sentenced to 20 months jail and fined $2,000 on Wednesday (2 March).

According to media reports, Kenneth Yeo Jia Chuan, 30, installed the pinhole cameras in the church’s handicapped toilet and the unisex toilet of the church’s office at Bukit Timah Shopping Centre in 2011.

He was caught after one of his victims, a 22-year-old undergraduate made a police report after she was informed that a video of her using the toilet had been posted online.

During investigations, police found 66 videos of women undressing or using the toilets in Yeo’s possession. After his arrest in 2012, Yeo admitted to filming the victim and at least nine others, and also attempting to sell the videos online for about $50 to $70.

According to senior consultant psychiatrist Brian Yeo, Yeo suffers from paraphilia - a condition characterised by abnormal sexual fantasies - and has been receiving treatment.

Yeo is currently out on bail of $20,000, and will start his sentence on 11 March.
