karma

Everytime hear people talking about karma to the extend of doing charity to bring in good karma. If karma is real, then does doing charity helps to bring in good karma? If this is real then anyone who rape, rob or kill can just do charity to bring good karma and escape punishment.

And the intention of doing charity is for bringing in good karma not for real helping people in need.

Re: karma

Hmmm, would like to think of karma as karma, and good deed as good deed. Good deed does not equal to good karma.

karma is something like 公德,good deed is something like 种福田。 If you are doing things for the sake of rewards then forget it. From what i've suffer, you plant good karma, the good karma will find you, and when you build bad karma, the bad karma will also find you. They WILL NOT offset each other.

So TS, what have you done to ask this kind of questions har?

Re: karma

Well this is a poll just to see how many people fall under that category. I do notice many people have always try to gain good karma by doing charity. People tend to believe it will offset whatever bad deed they done this life or past life. This kind of things often play in movie or drama too, imbue into many people thinking and belief. But well, there is no right or wrong, it is your own belief, have fun voting.

Hi, I'm newbie and don't know all those points system or up points etc. I just like some of the interesting subjects in this forum.

As you said, everyone is free to voice. So here is my own version of karma. I am a free thinker, I do not link karma to any religion. In my heart I do believe that doing a good deed like charity will gain in karma but I think it's a one-to-one relationship. In the earlier example you quoted, if someone rape, rob or kill and subsequently thinking doing charity will reduce that sin/wrongdoing, then it's wrong. Because I believe the wrongdoing to that particular person eg a girl you rape, will return the suffering that you caused in later part of your life. The charity you did will benefits a person/a group of people who they will return your favor later. So I disagree doing good deed will add to your karma in order to reduce the sin/wrongdoing you did... Just my own version

True that. To add on, bad things happen to people who do good deeds too.

Re: karma

i believe my definition of karma is different than what you guys are talking about, but i see karma as something with a cause-and-effect relationship. like, there's no good or bad karma, it's cause and effect.

real life example, last year during the haze period i won toto, so i bought masks and distribute to old people and children at angmokio during 11a.m-1p.m, bedok 2p.m-5p.m and clementi 6p.m to 8p.m. when i was at clementi i realised i lost my wallet, inside got at least 200+ cash plus all my credit card and IC, so i started to backtrack. when i see clementi don't have, i went back to bedok, and it was at leasat 3hrs after i left bedok, but when i went back, this malay girl ran up to me and told me "uncle! you finally come back. i found your wallet and i remember you were giving out masks." no money was lost even.

so, this is my opinion on karma. basic cause and effect, do good and good returns, do bad and bad returns.

I do not believe in karma but I believe we should do good deeds. It is a blessings that we are able to give more than we receive.
