As the world's 1.5 billion Muslims celebrate Eid-al-Adha, we're reminded that about 2 million of them are in Mecca doing the same. Among the celebrations is the sacrifice of livestock, including camels, the latter long suspected to be reservoirs of the virus that causes MERS.
A little bird from the West told me that hospitals in Mecca are beginning to see a steady stream of MERS-infected patients. It's only matter of time before pilgrims return from Saudi Arabia to their respective home countries where MERS will spread among their peoples.
Islamic State has realized that the most effective weapon of mass destruction is not suicide bombers but unsuspecting MERS carriers who will do the killing of infidels on its behalf. Let's face it: convincing jihadists to become suicide bombers is a tough sell but infecting unsuspecting pilgrims with MERS is a stroll in the park.
