An honorable member of the Coffee Shop Has Just Posted the Following:

SINGAPORE: Second Permanent Secretary (Trade & Industry) Chee Hong Tat will leave the civil service. His last day will be Aug 11, the Public Service Division (PSD) said on Tuesday (Aug 4).

Mr Chee was appointed the role in 2014 and was responsible for several areas of work within the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI), including international trade policies, tourism and enterprise development.

His departure fuels speculation that he will enter politics. He has been spotted recently accompanying People's Action Party Members of Parliament at various community events.

Mr Chee first joined the Administrative service in 1998, the Government added, and served several roles within the Ministry of Home Affairs, Finance, Transport and Education, before he was appointed Principal Private Secretary to the then Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew, in 2008.

The 41-year-old was appointed chief executive of the Energy Market Authority in 2011 and helped push out initiatives that improved Singapore’s energy security and enhanced market competition, “while maintaining a reliable and resilient power system”, PSD said.

In 2010, Mr Chee was awarded the Public Administration Medal (Silver) for his significant contributions to the public sector.
