Anwar’s Sodomy 2 verdict on Feb 10
An honorable member of the Coffee Shop Has Just Posted the Following:
Anwar’s Sodomy 2 verdict on Feb 10 PUTRAJAYA: Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will know on Feb 10 whether he will remain free or thrown behind bars for sodomising his former aide Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan in 2008. This followed a Malaysian Judiciary Twitter posting 12.03pm today that the Federal Court will deliver its verdict on Anwar's appeal on Feb 10. "Decision of DSAI v PP at Federal Court fixed on February 10, 2015 at 9.00 am," read the posting which had been retweeted 61 times and favourited seven times. Anwar's counsel Ramkarpal Singh confirmed the date and added that they have received notification of the date via fax around 12.15pm today. On Nov 7 last year, a five-man Federal Court bench chaired by Chief Justice Tun Arifin Zakaria reserved judgement on the appeal after presiding over the longest appeal hearing that ran for eight days from Oct 28. The other bench members are Court of Appeal President Tan Sri Md Raus Sharif, Tan Sri Suriyadi Halim Omar, Tan Sri Abdull Hamid Embong and Datuk Ramly Ali. Parti Keadilan Rakyat(PKR) de facto leader Anwar, 68, is appealing a Court of Appeal ruling which convicted him of sodomising Mohd Saiful and sentenced him to five years in jail. On March 7 last year, the Court of Appeal overturned a 2012 High Court decision acquitting Anwar of committing carnal intercourse against the order of nature on Mohd Saiful, 30. The Court of Appeal found Anwar guilty of committing the offence at a condominium unit at Bukit Damansara, Kuala Lumpur, between 3.10pm and 4.30pm on June 26, 2008. If Anwar loses his appeal, he would be disqualified as Permatang Pauh member of parliament as per Article 48(1)(e) of the Federal Constitution, which states that an MP would be disqualified if he or she is sentenced to a jail term of more than a year, or fined more than RM2,000. Appellant Anwar's legal team was led by retired Federal Court judge Datuk Seri Gopal Sri Ram, now a practicing lawyer. Senior lawyer Tan Sri Dr Muhammad Shafee Abdullah led the team representing the Attorney-General's Chambers, who is the respondent in the appeal. http://www.nst.com.my/node/70951 Click here to view the whole thread at www.sammyboy.com. |
