(Photo: Goh Chiewtong) SINGAPORE: A knife attack at Block 4 Marsiling Road left a man and a woman injured on Monday afternoon (Jan 26). The same block of flats saw a fire break out on the 8th floor, and one person was pronounced dead. Witnesses told Channel NewsAsia that a resident in that block, aged between 50 to 60, had a parang in his hand when he approached a unit on the third floor. A fight broke out between him and another man, and a woman in her 60s ended up with knife wounds when trying to intervene, witnesses said. Ms Dina Jainah, who was at the void deck at around 4.45pm, said she heard a loud plea for help. She shared pictures of the male victim looking bloodied in the aftermath of the attack. A resident who wanted to be known as "Sue" said the injured man ran down from the third floor and ran into her mother's apartment on level 2. "The man was badly injured. Blood all over. He asked us to call the police. He was with us until the police came," she said. Mr William Teo, who was visiting the block for volunteer work at the time said the man had injuries to his head, jaw and thigh. "When I went over, culprit already fled," Mr Teo said. The male victim has been identified by his wife as 62-year-old A-majid Maaraf. He and the injured woman have been sent to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital. A trail of blood was seen from the 13th floor down to the 8th floor, and there was blood splatter on the third floor. As for the deadly fire on the 8th floor, SCDF said they had to break into a flat and a man was found motionless near the toilet. There was no official word on whether the two incidents are linked.
