PM Lee caught censoring comments on his FB page

PM Lee posted a message on his Facebook page yesterday (20 Jan), stating that
he will be holding a “Live Q&A” session on his Facebook page this coming
Saturday 24 Jan, from 11:45am to 12:30pm (‘Event: Join PM Lee for a live Q&A on Facebook‘):



He asked netizens to pose questions on his Facebook page and he will address
as many questions as he can. He even posted a smiling emoticon at the end of
this post. This post inviting netizens to ask questions has garnered more than
7,700 “likes” by 11pm today (21 Jan).

So far, many netizens have already started posting questions on his Facebook
page. Their concerns included the difficulties some retrenched professionals,
managers, executives and technicians faced in getting a job.

During the interview with the media last week, he said social media had made
him more conscious of how to engage Singaporeans and others online.

Censorship on PM Lee’s Facebook page

However, a netizen has informed TRE that the impending Q&A session may
not be as transparent as what people may think.

Apparently a netizen, Thomas Hengthriteen, made the following post on Mr
Lee’s Facebook page on the thread announcing that he is holding the Q&A
session this Saturday:



Judging from the content of this post, Thomas certainly wrote some truthful
feelings about the many Singaporeans are feeling these days. The post is neither
abusive nor vulgar. It is a genuine feedback from the many frustrated
Singaporeans.

Thomas also re-posted the above message in another thread on a friend’s
Facebook page, which was discussing about Mr Lee’s impending Q&A session.
Someone then asked him to take a screenshot of his post on Mr Lee’s Facebook
page for safeguarding. Thomas did and posted the screenshot for the rest to
see:



Immediately, the alert netizen who informed TRE about the incident, spotted
that Thomas’ message had been “greyed out”, meaning that only Thomas and his
Facebook friends can see this post on Mr Lee’s Facebook page but not the rest of
the people.

The alert netizen said, “Bloody hypocrite! He wants a Q&A session and
yet, blanks out whatever he does not want to see.”

Not only that, the rest of the people who have not “friend” Thomas won’t be
able to see too. Note that Thomas’ post is not deleted.

To test this out, TRE went to the post on Mr Lee’s Facebook page, announcing
that he will be holding a Q&A session this Saturday. TRE observed that there
were already some 350 comment postings in this particular thread at about 11pm
today. Searching through the postings, we couldn’t find the one from Thomas
Hengthriteen.

TRE then contacted Thomas Hengthriteen, making a “friend request” to allow us
to “friend” him. Awhile later, Thomas replied and accepted our “friend request”.
TRE then went back to the said post on Mr Lee’s Facebook page. Lo and behold, we
could immediately see Thomas’ comment, which was posted at 5.57 pm
yesterday.

It’s not known how many netizens posting questions on Mr Lee’s Facebook page
will be accepted by Mr Lee and their postings will allowed to be seen by
all.

Another netizen consoled Thomas, “Standard lah bro, like what in status said…
all wayang only. Just like the last elections… only crocodile tears…”
