An honorable member of the Coffee Shop Has Just Posted the Following:

SENTOSA IS THE MOST EXPENSIVE ISLAND FOR A HOLIDAY IN SOUTHEAST ASIA

Sentosa is the most expensive island for travellers who want to go for a short island getaway.

Not a surprise, but considering that Singapore is not even ranked among the Top 10 Islands in Asia to visit, it might not be worth paying all that money just for a short trip to Sentosa.

It would cost S$1,005.53 just for an overnight stay and day out at Sentosa whereas it would only cost S$283.42 for a similar stay at Gili Trawangan in Indonesia, or the most affordable island for an island holiday.

The results are taken from the second annual TripIndex Island Sun report 2014 which compares an overnight stay for two. 16 of Southeast Asia’s most popular island destinations were compared.

Gili Trawangan is ranked 5th on the 2014 Traveller's Choice for the Top 10 Islands in Asia.

Both rankings are compiled by TripAdvisor.

The most affordable islands in Southeast Asia are in Indonesia and Thailand.

However, Bintan in Indonesia has overtaken Langkawi as the most expensive island to stay. It costs S$694.70 to stay in Bintan. This could be because of the island’s proximity to Singapore and the holiday seekers from Singapore.

Langkawi is now the 4th most expensive island, costing S$619.74 for a night’s stay. Langkawi is ranked the 10th best-rated island.

Sentosa is also the most expensive when it comes to having a meal (with coconuts), beer, bicycle rental and massage for two.

However, Sentosa is not the most expensive for a hotel stay and kayak rental for two. Palawan in the Philippines has the most expensive hotel stay and it is most expensive to rent a kayak in Pulau Redang in Malaysia.

Palawan is also ranked 8th on the Top 10 Islands ranking.

For Singaporeans who are looking for the cheapest and best islands to go to, other than Gili Trawangan, there is the option of Bali in Indonesia which is the second most affordable island and also the 2nd best-rated island.

Koh Samui in Thailand is ranked the 3rd most affordable and 9th best-rated, while another of Thailand’s islands, is ranked 6th most affordable and 7th best-rated.

So, there you have it! The cheapest and best places to go for the holiday season in Southeast Asia! Have you packed your bags for the coming holidays in December? If not, it’s time to book a flight to one of Indonesia’s or Thailand’s islands.

But of course, if you want lots of gambling and a theme park by the beach, Sentosa is still your closest bet. But you might be better off saving that money to visit these attractions on Sentosa, and then taking a flight to another island for a night’s stay.

One wonders why the Singapore island isn't ranked, having been ranked as the most expensive city in the world by The Economist earlier this year!
