GERMAN CHAMBER OF COMMERCE: SG NEEDS MORE FOREIGNERS DUE TO SHORTAGE OF LABOUR

Post date:

According to a recent survey conducted by the Singapore-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGC), most German companies here are finding it difficult to hire skilled labour.

They explained that many German firms here are planning to expand over the next year but are unable to find suitable job applicants at both the university and vocational level.

President of the SGC, Mr Wolfgang Huppenbauer, said that the there are over 1,400 German companies in Singapore and there are even more medium sized firms wanting to come to Singapore over the next year.
According to their survey of over 320 firms, 53% of German firms here wanted to expand over the next 12 months but at the same time, 67% said they were having trouble hiring staff.

The SGC said that if this labour shortage is not addressed, it will hamper the growth of the companies in future. Furthermore, if more labour is not made available, Singapore could see more firms relocating to other ASEAN countries.
