Thumbs up Election department blames two 17 yr olds for the empty ballot boxes found last year

ELECTION DEPARTMENT BLAMES TWO 17 YR OLDS FOR THE EMPTY BALLOT BOXES FOUND LAST YEAR

Post date:
2 Jun 2014 - 8:29pm

Background Story: EMPTY BALLOT BOXES FOR PE 2011 FOUND IN SCHOOL STOREROOM

Two 17 year olds have been issued a warning in relation to the empty ballot boxes which were found in a school storage room last August.

Previously, the Elections Department had already ruled that there was no breach of the integrity of the electoral process.

The empty ballot boxes, which were used in the 2011 Presidential Election, were found in August last year and photographs of them were circulating online prompting Singaporeans to question whether the votes had been tampered with or whether the secrecy of the votes were compromised.

After filing a police report and conducting their own investigations, the Elections Department had concluded that the election was not compromised and that the empty ballot boxes were simply there as the waste contractor had not collected them properly after the elections.

Now, two 17 year olds have been issued a warning for the 'unauthorised removal' of the empty ballot boxes from a store room.

Why is it that the warning is only being issued now when the investigations into the empty ballot boxes had occurred last year?

As the authorities had already concluded last year that the election results and secrecy of votes were not compromised, why would they continue doing any further investigations? If they had already known of the two 17 yr olds' involvement, they should have warned them last year already.
