If PAP is so good, why does it need 2 control Internet to stop freei info exchange?
An honorable member of the Coffee Shop Has Just Posted the Following:
Obama control and lead a country of 300M people he does not need to control what people say about US govt on the Interenet, yet the country is a superpower, most wealthy in the world. They have enjoyed free speech for centuries and the country evolved to be atru superpower. The places where free speech is tightly controlled is in N. Korea. Compare N. Korea with S. Korea where the leaders who completely tolerate any criticisms on the Interent ...and no taxpayers' money is used to control it...which is better? Why after educating a whole generation of people under our education system, the govt still don't trust them to discuss issues freely among themselves without state control? Why is this the case? Why is free open discusion of various matters such a concern to the PAP? Is a population of ordinary people equip with critical thinking abilities ...able to analyse issues themselves such a big concern for the PAP?! On the other hand, they were very happy in the past when Singaporeans were obediently quiet and there was ponly one source of information....and there was little discussion among Singaporeans on govt policies and issues. ... Why is Singaporeans exchanging ideas on the Internet such a big issue for the PAP? The idea of INCLUSIVE SOCIETY seems to rest on getting the people to accept the PAP system rather than making major overhauls to the existing one. But surely the purpose of govt and a political party cannot be to protect a legacy system from change but to always change for the better?! There is only reason to control free speech of a people ...it is the same in Kim's N. Korea, Stalin's Russia ...and in Singapore is to protect the interest of one group over the interest of another larger group of people. If what is done favors the majority group, then having people free exchange information will only favor the party in power. The paradoxical claim that the PAP acts for the larger good but most pple cannot comprehend what they are doing is lame excuse. If this claim is true, then each Singapore just need to determine if life is better today than 10 years ago to determine its authenticity. In conclusion, the need for PAP to control and regulate what is free discussion on the Internet, stems from the fact the PAP runs a lopsided system and has to prevent people from figuring out how unjust and unfair the system is in order to get the ignorant buy in. What they run is an elitist system dressed up as a meritocracy in which elites who belong to the power structure of state controlled media, GLC, SAF, Civil service and PAP capture a disproportionate amount of the benefit which the ordinary Singapore who forms the majority takes the short end of the stick...and the opposition takes the bulk of the punishment. Itis a system that perpetuate and protect itself to the detriment of others in the society. I am encouraged by 2 things said by ESM Goh CT: "Singapore must guard against elitism...." "Singapore must change to avert crisis....". The inverted pyramid of power and benefits has to be normalised or the structure will collapse due to the heavy to draining benefits from the bottom. It is this unequal, unbalance approach that will lead to instability in our society. The free speech and free exchange merely helps Singaporeans see with cyrstal clarity what the system is today. ...and we must act to stabilise it or face crisis in the near future.
