Thumbs up [Letter to Today] Acknowledge foreign workers during NDP

An honorable member of the Coffee Shop Has Just Posted the Following:

FROM JEFFREY LAW LEE BENG

The annual National Day Parade has always been spectacular, and the “Theme of NDP 2013: Many Stories ... One Singapore” (May 10) should be as captivating as in previous years.

Undeniably, one important story is that without foreigners, Singapore could not have been what we are today.

Our comfortable homes, convenient public transport and clean neighbourhoods are the result of hard work rendered by workers from various countries.

These foreign workers have played a pivotal role in Singapore’s success, and the NDP Exco Committee should accord them some form of recognition.

Perhaps, the workers could form a parade contingent — with their own national costumes and dances.

As Singaporeans take pride in what they have achieved as a nation, they must not forget foreign workers’ contributions to the country’s well-being.

Hence, let them join in our celebrations so that when they return to their countries, they can proudly reflect on their efforts in making Singapore a better place to live, study and work.
