DR TING REJECTS MINDEF'S LEGAL THREATS: NEW HARASSMENT ACT DOESN'T APPLY TO MINISTRIES Post date: 10 Feb 2015 - 10:18pm Background Story: MINDEF THREATENS TO SUE FORMER PATENT OWNER FOR HARASSMENT Dr Ting Choon Meng, the Founder of MobileStats and the former patent holder for a mobile medical station which was allegedly "stolen" by MINDEF, has said that he will not be abiding my MINDEF's legal demands to stop "harassing" them. Dr Ting had alleged that the Ministry of Defence had stolen his idea for the Mobile Medical Station after seeing the invention at a trade fair in 2005. Shortly after that meeting, MINDEF came up with a very similar vehicle to the patented design and when Dr Ting took action for breach of patent, MINDEF proceeded to apply to get Dr Ting's patent revoked. His patent was subsequently revoked and when Dr Ting shared his story online, he was issued a legal letter from MINDEF demanding that he "cease and desist" making false statements about MINDEF having "stolen" his invention. The legal letter, published on Socio-Political website The Online Citizen, threatened to take out a protection order under the new Protection from Harassment Act passed in November 2014 should Dr Ting continue to make false statements about MINDEF. Under the new law, violations of protection orders can result in fined of up to $10,000 and imprisonment of up to 2 years for repeat offenders. In a response, Dr Ting's Lawyers from Peter Low LLC claimed argued that the new act "is clearly not intended to apply to the Ministry of Defence, which has ample resources to defend itself and publicly clarify its official position via public channels." The full response letter was published on TOC. Click here to view the whole thread at www.sammyboy.com. |
