MNC GENERAL MANAGER FINED $1,000 FOR KNOCKING DOWN, KILLING 78YR OLD PEDESTRIAN

Post date:
27 Mar 2015 - 9:21pm

Michael Teo Wee Hian, 65, was fined $1,000 and banned from driving for 6 months for knocking down and killing a 78yr old pedestrian.
Teo, the general manager of an MNC here, had failed to keep a proper look out when he ran into 78 year old Sonnie Lien, on November 11, 2013 along Ulu Pandan Road.
Mr Lien was the son of tycoon and philanthropist Lien Ying Chow, the man who started the Overseas Union Bank which is now the United Overseas Bank.
Teo was driving along Ulu Pandan Road when he had seen Mr Lien on the kerb on the left hand side. At that time, Mr Lien had not been crossing the road. Teo then looked back at his own lane and to his right as he wanted to turn right into Holland Grove Road.
During this time, Mr Lien started to cross the road but Teo did not notice him until it was too late. He knocked into Mr Lien who died about an hour later.

Teo had noted that he did not expect Mr Lien to cross the road at that time and it all happened in the blink of an eye.
His lawyer also pointed out that Teo was driving within the speed limit and he had a perfect driving record prior to the accident.
For failing to keep a proper lookout when driving, the maximum fine is $1000, or a 6 month jail term.
