my friend told me that living expenses wasnt that high back in 06..but now it has gone up quite considerably...
so with a monthly of SGD300, a family of 4 should be able to sustain 3meals a day for a month, right?
pardon my ignorance ...
just want to know more about the lifestyle in vietnam..

Maybe you will like to let us know the reason behind you asking these questions. As for your question, a family of 4 with S$300 a month being able to sustain 3meals a day will depend on what they eat. Normal vietnamese take very simple food, mostly vegetables and a little meat. If for simple meals, S$300 a month just for food will be enough.
1987-1989.... i just started to sian cha bo in school.
last time sian cha bo also no need so much money...
take bus bring cha bo go marina square watch movie and roam around.
U good life, maybe allowance alot or u started working young.
Back in 1987, my daily allowance only $2. Canteen recess, drum stick/chicken wing nasi lemak costed 0.8-1 or noodle soup, $0.5-0.6 and drink, 1 cup 0.2.... 1 week saved about $4-5. Want to sian cha bo go watch movie, must think twice. 1 outing think need at least $10.

This type whether enough or not enough, very difficult to answer u. As mentioned before, it all depends on individual family. If the family used to living simple then it is enough.
1 of the reason why gers go to whore themselves is, the family is not contented with what they have. So pity the daughter needs to go out and find more money for the family.
The above is minority families. Most are contented or gave up on life.

Aiya, very simple still need to ask?
Either going to support family over there or going to throw $$ into saigon river. If it is the later, pls give the $$ to me i help u donate to charity.
SDGS300 per mth = 5milVND
eat outside everyday also more than enough. some more have to see which province the family is residing in. if those kampong area, no need say, can last more than a month.
Like SV n Naemlo said, it all boils down to the eating/spending habit of the family. If everyday 大鱼大肉, then not enough, cant even last 1month.

not sure if the info you got from your gal is correct. Most people that stays in District 8 are from the province. They rent rooms there as its further away from town and cheaper. If she has the money to rent an apartment, then she should not be that bad financially. But i should think that she is renting a room instead. You say she is not from the kampung, have you seen her HOUSEHOLD BOOK? If she is from HCM itself, she will not be renting any place. District 8 is a messy place with lots of indecent cafes and lots of drug addicts and peddlers. Just wondering how long have you been in Vietnam to come to your conclusion that your gal is not from the province. better check household book to make sure....
