Re: Liverpool Fc @ Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings

Liverpool close to signing £8.7m defender - reports
Liverpool closing in on Aly Cissokho, according to reports in France

Liverpool are edging ever closer to securing the signing of Aly Cissokho from Lyon, it has been claimed.

According to French publication Le Parisen, the Reds could confirm the capture of the 23-year-old defender in the coming days for a fee of around £8.7 million.

Cissokho has made 60 appearances for Lyon since moving to the Stade de Gerland from Porto in 2009, while he has been capped on one occasion for France.

Despite commanding a fee of £13.1 million when he joined the Ligue 1 club, Cissokho will reportedly be allowed to leave for Liverpool in cut-price deal in order to raise much needed funds.

An uncompromising left-back, Cissokho could be just the type of player Liverpool are craving, as Kenny Dalglish & Co look to fill the problematic position.

Paul Konchesky had moved to Anfield last summer to take on the left-sided role, but failed to make an impact at Liverpool and was subsequently sold to Leicester City.

Newcastle's Jose Enrique was installed as the early favourite to succeed Konchesky at Liverpool, but it has been suggested the Spaniard is holding out for a move to Arsenal.

Wing: Maxi, Kuyt, Cole (might go?), Downing

Some points:
There's a lot of flexibility in the midfield except for some individuals, egs Stevie, Raul, Henderson, Downing (both sides), Cole.

Some of the players bought like Henderson are clearly meant as understudy and may not walk into the first team.

We need depth. Pls be gone the days when we had kids and jokers on the bench. We should have a bench that frightens the shit out of the opponents and gets ooh aah from pundits.

This suggests, 4-5 first team, 3-4 bench. Overloaded midfield, I think not?

I'm sure Kenny has plans for defenders and even a striker. We won't look so middle heavy then.
agreed, i think at the moment we have the strongest midfield in the EPL and that is important bcos it is the engine of the team & KK can play many formations, juz look at how successful is chelsea over the years where they also dont play with natural wingers & always play 4 central midefielders in a diamond formation.

also, having a strong second team meant that we can seriously challenge on all 3 domestic trophies this season & not use the carling cup for e.g. to blood youngsters, however, hope KK give pacheco more playing time this season as backup to suarez & carroll..................YNWA

Djimi Traore?

Tink throughout the years, especially during GHoullier's era we have countless french-fries (i mean french men) plying their trade in our Reds: Gregory Vignal, Damien Plessis, Nicholas Anelka, Pegguy Arphexad, Charles Itandje, Patrice Luzi, Bruno Cheyrou, Bernard Diomede, Anthony Le Tallec and Sinama Pongelle.

Of all these, perhaps only N Anelka and S Pongelle had left any good impressions.

If you analyse KD's teams when he was manager of Liverpool, Newcastle & Blackburn...... all of them had very strong midfielders....... KD's style is pass n move and his midfielders are very mobile on the pitch.

From the players that KD's is assembling ...... I think he will implement either 4-1-3-2 / 4-1-4-1 or 4-2-3-1 formations for LFC this season.

yeah bro that the one tall lanky chap runs like a ostrich..

I feel that Anelka wasn't given enough time to break into the team...neither was Sinama...always used as a fringe player only...and what about Cisse...came with a big reputation but ended falling flat on his face most of the time literally..

Cisse? Granted he has the speed and talent, but just come across as someone more obsessed with his colourful hairstyles than his footy.

Frenchmen who are able to make a lasting impressions in EPL: maybe the current Sami Nasir (though jury still pending due to his still short stint in EPL) and Anelka, and of cos manure's Eric Cuntona..

Thru-out our Reds' history we are always in search of the right LB, someone who can be comfortable cutting out crosses and able to make the attacking forrays to supply crosses..oh yeah, only Alan Kennedy comes to mind..

So rather just hope this Aly Cissoko (if news he's coming is believable) is capable

i remember the liverpool of the 70s and 80s never need to depend on such high ball crosses in...they always have capable wingers who were able to bring the ball in along the by line and send in for the forwards to score..

Agreed...look at MU championship run...Ryan Giggs, C. Ronaldo, Nani...all were good wingers...also T. Henry, ex-Arsenal always play from flank and cut in to cross or score himself...^_^

We need ex-players...J. Barnes, S. Heighway, Peter Thompson, S. McManaman...were great wingers...

Having said that, I hope we won't play like Chelsea

But with Carroll, there is bound to be some predictability in our play, like the Shearer-Sutton-Wilcox-Ripley forward line of the league-winning Blackburn team. That's where Suarez will be our cat among the pigeons.

Anelka was Houliier's greatest mistake - replaced him with Diouf who is probably our most hated player - no the most hated player in the English league.

That's something when his competition is Diver.

Insua played some great games in the friendlies. I hope he can stay and fight for a place. But for some reason rumours about him leaving are not going away

Btw, Aquilani, Ngog and Adam all played well recently (from highlights at least).

I couldn't believe my eyes when reading the news interviews by Alex Ferguson these past few days talking about KD...... that old geezer is shitting in his pants at KD's comeback and from his statements can see that he is frightened by the resurgence of Liverpool FC.

Hey guys,

I've just added Pirambi to my ignore list. Quite cool. Whatever he types, it will no longer show on my screen. So I will only read useful comments in this thread. Perhaps you guys should consider doing this too. So whatever he types, it will just show as below...
