TORRES KOPS BUMPER LIVERPOOL DEAL
Reds fight off City and Barca bids

FERNANDO Torres will be offered the chance to become 'the face of Liverpool' to fend off mega bids from Manchester City and Barcelona.

The Merseysiders are in talks with the striker's advisors to massively enhance Torres' commercial earnings as they try to kill off speculation about his future.

Torres signed a £100k a week four year deal last summer, but the terms will be made much more lucrative following this summer's World Cup.

Liverpool want to provide substantially greater rewards on Torres' image rights as he's marketed as a Kop icon around the world.

It would be the most profitable player specific commercial deal in Anfield history, recognising Torres' hero status as critical to Liverpool's enduring global popularity.

Liverpool know they can't compete with the kind of wages City are prepared to offer the 25-year-old, which is why they've devised a similar strategy to that Manchester United are adopting to retain Wayne Rooney.

The Kop's commercial profits have been on the rise in recent seasons, and it's the fame and pulling power of Anfield which will allow the club to maximise Torres' financial rewards.

Although the club is confident Torres won't quit Liverpool as early as this summer, they're braced for massive bids, especially if they fail to qualify for the Champions League.

Manchester City's hopes of luring the striker have always looked slim regardless of their wealth, but Barcelona have also recently registered an interest.

Chelsea also tried to sign Torres last summer and Liverpool know they face a serious battle to keep the player if they don't get their act together on and off the pitch.

Torres is known to have been anxious for reassurances about the direction of the club following a disappointing season, but Liverpool hope their proposals prove that any suggestion they'd cash in on the player are ill-founded.

There have been fears the cash problems of co-owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett Jr would make them vulnerable to £80m offers, but their joint reign is entering its final months.

They know it's in the club's interest to keep their most prized asset on Merseyside as it makes Liverpool more attractive to investors.

The talks with Torres' advisors underline the determination to not only resist all bids, but to ensure that financially he'll be rewarded as handsomely at Anfield as anywhere else.

Carragher prepared to leave Liverpool

Jamie Carragher: Contract talks on hold

Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has revealed that he would have "no problem'' walking away from Anfield if he is not offered a new contract.

Carragher, who has spent his entire career at Liverpool, will have a year remaining on his present deal when this season finishes, and there are no negotiations currently taking place about a renewal.

The 32-year-old is seeking assurances about the club's plans for the near future and Liverpool are keen to let Carragher focus on playing this term before initiating any contract talks.

But Carragher, who has played more than 600 games for the Reds, acknowledges there may come a time when he has to search for another club.

"The club will give me a new contract if they want to," he told the Sunday Times. "If not it doesn't matter, I'll still play my best and if I have to move then I'll move, no problem. It wouldn't bother me."

Carragher famously quit international football in 2007 after becoming frustrated with limited opportunities in the England team, and stresses he is "not scared of making big decisions''.

"It's a club thing,'' he said. "It's down to them. I'll keep playing and see where it takes me.''

Only Dirk Kuyt and Lucas Leiva have made more appearances than Carragher for Liverpool in the Premier League this season, suggesting the club still rely heavily on their vice-captain.

Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez said: "There is no news about Carragher. We have spoken to him and he was very clear that at this moment he just wants to concentrate on doing his job.

"I think Jamie prefers the situation as it is. The information I have is that he is comfortable with how things are and that he wants to wait.''

another very highly rated young defender. tis kid is only 21yo and already the regular partner with agger in danish national team. a liverpool supporter.. but do we need another central defender? long term replacement for carragher? will he willing to give up his regular place at palermo to come to us to fight with agger, skrtel, carragher and kyros for a place? most importantly, can we match chelsea, man utd, man city offer?
Why not and we should go for him definitely given our situation: Skrtel has had another bad injury, Agger is injury prone, and both Carra and Kyros are on the wrong side of 30. So either too old or too frail!

Btw how tall is this fella? I miss the days when Sami when win every header

according to his profile, he's abt 1.89m tall...

seems tat lots of players have openly declared tat they would like to play for us more than others...

if only we have to money to compete with man utd, man city and chelsea... sighed....

ya man, miss not only his defensive headers, but oso his contribution of goals in set pieces... and of cos, his calmness in defense...

Re: Liverpool Fc @ Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings

Yea, even if he was gone, he has contributed so much to the leverkusen defence which made them unbeaten this season until yesterday (which they lost 3-2).

We should have just extend his contract by another 1 year at least to backup the squad just like what manure - Alex is doing for Giggs & Scholes.

We need the 4th place so much to keep on our stars..hopefully can overthrow Gooners for 3rd place (Hopefully)

watched a bit of leverkusen match last nite... i think he was having a rare off day...

if i was not wrong, we offered him an extension, but he felt tat he still has few years of top class football in him, so he left for regular 1st team football, which we couldn't promise him...

he'll be most welcome back as a coach or eventually as the manager...

SG really looked un-interested... which is unacceptable as a captain!!

Torres off colour tonite, he should have put away at least 2 chances by his usual standard...

While our 2 stars failed to shine, other simply couldn't stand up and take over the responsibility...

hoping for miracle......

Re: Liverpool Fc @ Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings

What a stinking pile of crap again, back to the dark days.

Rattled, outfought and outplayed by a humble Wigan side.

Insua's defending is shot to pieces, Stevie lacking inspiration and looking for inspiration, Torres and Glen lacking sharpness.

I think we should play Aquilani. He may not be at the top of his game but I do see his commitment, desire and hunger whenever he gets to play. He really tries hard on the pitch. Better than a fit but uninterested Gerrard anytime. We should drop Gerrard for a few matches to make him wake up. Just like how Houllier dropped him for a few matches back then in... 2003??

I am getting a bit worried with the remaining away fixtures at Manure, Birmingham, Burnley and Hull. Let's hope its just a rare off day for Liverpool...YNWA At least, we don't need to play with Tottenham, Man City and Aston Villa for the remaining fixtures.
