No offense bro, but i think its the other way round, VND is quite a useless currency. Rich Vietnamese will quickly change VND to USD or EURO once they receive the cash. VND can only be used commonly in Vietnam, Tieng Viet can only be widely used in Vietnam and within the vietnamese communities in a few western countries like USA and Australia. Look at the rate of depreciation of VND. We love vietnam for their slower pace of life, less stressful lifestyle , but this is because we have a strong currency and we enjoy when we go there. If you stay there, earn VND, surely that place will not be that wonderful.

Initially i will question her, and it will always lead to arguments. Nowadays, i just keep quiet but try my best to prevent her from changing watches so often.
Wow, that's kind of comforting to me. The most expensive thing i bought for her so far is a pirated LV bag cost sgd 70 which she like alot, bcos she understand real LV bag cost sgd2xxx+.

Now she wants a galaxy S to replace her nokia old model phone. Maybe I am too stingy, ya.

For me, I see vietnam as the next potential China. Now they are opening their doors to foreigners and foreign investments. I think it is good to get their properties before their currency strengthen.

Vietnam is far away as compared to china. Their governance to economic development is still too primitive relative to china. Their government also lack the commitment and drive as compared to china. Their economic activity and strength has greatly weakened for the past 2 years, foreign reserves has also been halved within 2 years, from 240 billion USD to 120 Billion USD. I am kind of skeptical on how long more can Hanoi defend the VND

Re: Understanding Vietnamese Life Partner

Just one of the many examples to illustrate the lack of government funds :

Traffic projects delayed by lack of funds

HCM CITY — Construction of several key traffic projects in HCM City have been delayed for lack of funds, local officials say.

The Bang Ky Bridge in Binh Thanh District, a road section to link Hoang Dieu Street in District 4 to Nguyen Van Linh Boulevard in District 7, the expansion of Truong Chinh and Tan Ky Tan Quy streets and two traffic jam hotspots in Tan Binh District, were among the projects on which work could not begin, said Le Quyet Thang, director of the city's Urban Traffic Management Unit 1.

Thang said delays have also occurred in the project to upgrade Ben Van Don Street in District 4 and Provincial Road 10B in Binh Tan District. The unit was pushing hard for funds for these projects because they were urgent, he added.

The Nguoi Lao dong (Labourer) newspaper quoted deputy director Le Ngoc Hung of the city's Urban Traffic Management Unit 2 saying he hoped to receive VND20 billion (US$967,000) for completing work on the Go Dua Intersection in Thu Duc District, which has been delayed for eight years. Tran Quang Vinh, director of the city's Urban Traffic Management Unit 3, said the construction of 11 bridges on provincial Road 9 that linked the city's Hoc Mon District with Duc Hoa District in neighbouring Long An Province had been delayed.

"Some of the bridges have small capacities at present, but these are having to bear continuous traffic of heavy trucks everyday. The risk of collapse is obvious," said Vinh.

Thang, Hung, and Vinh said they were doing their best to get capital for the projects, but the funding decision rested with higher ranking agencies.

The city's Department of Transport said it received VND1.12 trillion ($53 million) for traffic infrastructure construction projects this year, but this could only meet 30 per cent of the capital needed for basic traffic constructions around the city.

The managers of the traffic management units said they were also experiencing difficulties accessing maintenance funds; not good news for a city teeming with 5.2 million vehicles. —VNS

Enterprises fight to survive challenges

HA NOI — High interest rates, drastic market fluctuations and lower consuming remain major obstacles to the development of Vietnamese enterprises.

Viet Nam Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Dr Vu Tien Loc said that to the end of June, 40 per cent of the 580,000 registered businesses had announced their failure, stopped working or entered into bankruptcy.

The number of enterprises in extremely difficult situations had doubled compared with the same period last year.

Viet Nam Association of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises president, Dr Cao Sy Kiem, said 30 per cent of 22,000 member enterprises were making no progress, 30 per cent were having difficulty and the remainder were at risk of bankruptcy.

Many enterprises had not declared their failure due to complex procedures.

Kiem said 30 per cent of trade villages targeting exports have had to reduce production.

In the first half of the year, breakdown situation happened in many cities and provinces such as Can Tho, Da Nang, Quang Tri and Quang Nam.

Viet Nam Trade Village Association president Vu Quoc Tuan said high interest rates, input price rises and a decline in international consumption were the main reasons why enterprises found it difficult. Enterprises specialising in production of wood, rattan and jewellery consumed in the domestic market, have still withstood.

Finance Minister Vu Van Ninh has submitted a number of measures to support enterprises, including the extension of tax deadlines and tax reduction and exemption, for adoption by the Assembly on July 21.

The proposed time of extension of tax deadlines, tax reduction and exemption is from August 11 to the end of the year.

Under the Finance Ministry's plan, small and medium-sized enterprises and those that had more than 300 workers will have their deadlines for enterprise income tax delayed a year.

The amount of this tax is expected to be about VND10-13 trillion (US$485 million-$630 million).

Enterprise income tax that applies in tax extension enterprises, will down 30 per cent, totalling VND2.5-3.7 trillion ($121-197.6 million), according to the ministry's plan. — VNS

Foreign direct investment declines

HCM CITY — Few improvements in the investment climate are to blame for the reduction in foreign investment into the country in the first half of the year, industry insiders have said.

Figures from the Ministry of Planning and Investment's Foreign Investment Agency showed that total registered FDI capital for 455 foreign-invested projects along with capital added to existing projects reached over US$5.6 billion in the first six months of this year, equivalent to just 56.7 per cent of the same period last year.

Reaching the target of $20 billion worth of FDI set for the year will be difficult, the department said.

Economist Le Dang Doanh said aside from volatile and unpredictable policies few reforms had been made in the investment environment in Viet Nam, noting that reform must be efficient and can stabilise the macro-economy to be able to attract FDI flow into the country.

Experts said despite being a large labour market attractive to foreign capital sources, Viet Nam can easily lose out opportunities due to its investment environment.

The recent instability in macro-economic policies has uncovered several weaknesses, causing investors to delay their decisions to do business, they said.

They attributed the decline in pledged FDI capital and the rate of FDI disbursement over the past six months largely to the big impact of the slumping domestic market as well as soaring input costs and an unstable macroeconomy.

The World Bank estimated in a report on Viet Nam's economic development that the fall in FDI funds stemmed not only from the impact of the global economy but also from such macro-economic instability, power shortages and a scarcity of skilled labourers, among others.

A survey by the European Chamber of Commerce (EuroCham) on the second-quarter investment environment showed that EuroCham business members said their confidence in business prospects in Viet Nam was dropping because of the lack of improvement in macro-economic policies.

EuroCham President Alain Cany said if improvement was not made effectively then Viet Nam could lose its attractiveness compared with other ASEAN countries. — VNS

stingy in a way whereby what need to spend, have to spend and what need not have to spend, dont spend.the different on how you buy things for her is u must determine what is WANT and what is NEED

my wife also every time say i stingy but she understand why i do so,is for our future.every year i will buy her a birthday present, last year itchy hand go buy a ring at city gem for around $400 then she seldom wear, this year was i phone 4 but due to hp spolit and need to renew,i buy for her

if your girl is good, she will understand why u stingy on certain things but girls will be girls, they like to change clothes, shoes, bags and etc like no tomorrow.
spend according to your means and if she understand,is good for u,at least u know she understand and love u
