Yes you are right, I can speak their language and probably thats why our chemistry is very strong and I feel that she is also very comfortable with me even though we met first time. Actually we dont call it chiangmai slang of thai because it is not a slang as it is a totally different language. We actually call it Pa Sa Nia ( Pa Sa mean language, Nia mean north ) Anway the answer to your question is very long story lah, 3 days 3 night also cannot tell finish so better cut short and let just put it this way, I actually ever stayed in thailand for about 1 year in a village about 4 hours away from Chiangmai. Yes, 1 year doing nothing, just eat, drink, bonk and sleep ( haha dont envy me hor, you also can mah if you want ). With the excellent guidance from my Thai girlfriend and the friendly villagers, I guess this is how I managed to speak their language. Sure no problem if you really want to learn Pa Sa Nia I can teach you. But then where? Surely not here right? This is FR thread leh, wait bros here not happy how ?...hahaha...cheers.

I think simply "been to Chiangmai before" will not acquire the local speak. He must have stayed there before for a considerable period.

Well Bro it all depends on what you want to learn and how far you want to go in this language. Below are a few suggestions.
1) Pa Sa Gan ( Thailand language that is taught in all thai school ) If you just want to speak and understand, I think just buy some cds and books from bookstores will do. But if you want to not only speak and understand but also read and write, then I think you must definitely go for CC class.
2) Pa Sa Nia ( Thai Northern Language ). Simple. Just follow my example. Find one Northern Thai girl, follow her back to the village and stay for a period of time.Try your best to learn their language if not lazy, sure can succeed.
3) Pa Sa Tai ( Thai Southern Language ). Please follow 2)

Totally agree with this. When you're living there and that language is the only one you get to listen to everyday, then even if you are lazy, you will still be forced to learn. Either that or return to Sg.

Unfortunately not many people can afford the luxury of packing up and staying at a location for extended period of time...

1 year in the village ? u must be married to a thai for u to get a non immigrant visa for a long stay in thailand.
