Therefore , it may not be correct and/or accurate to peg the ministers pay to the top 5% of the nation income as they may not possibly earn so much in the private sector, so to speak ...

I wonder did the govt screen the financial capability of the Chinese students before letting them in. For someone who can study in Singapore, in my opinon, their father should be earning something like 20,000 RMB (S$4000) in order for the kid to survive in Singapore. This means that the father is able to pay S$2000 per month for mother and child. I bet this is not what our govt is ensuring. Did they follow up with checks by social workers to see how they are doing? I doubt so.

Don;t the pdmm and child have to eat? And the rising cost of living in Singapore will not help much.

For some of us, we patronise such shop as we also pity the pdmm, and help them to survive. i actually sometimes gave extra to them so that they have more allowance for the kids. THere were also times I did not ask for extra service as I just want a good massage, and gave them $50 tips and ask if they need any help. I even teach them how to ensure that their kids pass their exams with good grades. Not that I can afford or rich, but I pity them.

But to be fair to DPM, I am sure he was given a scolding from the top brass and he followed by a scolding down his ranks for action to be taken. Very swift action indeed.

Clamping down on TN is not a solution. What is the root cause? Clamp down is just a wayang, for show only, to appease some that action is taken. But the problem still persists.

Solution will be to be stringent on giving social passes (but here we are being afraid of spoiling Singapore and China relations), stringent screening of Chinese students' family income before letting them study here.

Oh yeah, ask pdmm to work in factory getting take home pay S$600 per month,less rental S$350, less transport and food expense S$230, left with S$20.To buy tampons?

Oh yeah, stringent social passes for Chinese and the Chinese reciprocate with stringent access for us when we enter? We have too much to lose in our industrial parks in China.

Now my question is will HC will affected as these may not be classified as SPA. Are they? I cannot imagine HC with open concept!
If we legalise whorehouses in Geylang, why not legalise such TN and earn the taxes?

Well, there is still a very very very very very very very long way for Singapore to reach a stage of graciousness. I do not feel apologetic for the govt for its failure to make Singapore gracious since the days when the tall SM was PM. In the first place, is our govt gracious enough and lead by example? I have former classmates who are now working in the ministries earning superscale salaries, and I don;t feel like talking to them sometimes. As if I am earning less than them which is not the case and we both drive the same BMW models, somehow their eye is way on top!

Sorry for this long thread. For me, the shut down of the TN does not affect me as I travel frequently and there are always many choices but I am just worried for the future living of the pdmm.

The loss of 500 over HC will affect Singapore economic a lot.
Let us look at how the girls contribute to oue economic.
The rents they paid, the food they eat, the handphone they keep on change,
The clothes they buy, the $$$ they spend on their off day, the $$$ for their children etc...
This is going to be quite a impact to our economic.
How does economic work? We each earn each other money, the cycle go on and on, many ppl spend, many ppl earn, many ppl eanr, more ppl spend, govt earn many though tax, govt spend on wages and projects and the money keep rolling.
Now suddenly there is a 500 HC tat close down, thousands of girl stop earning and by the way they are very generous with their $$$, i watch them spend before. This will somehow affect the whole economic chain.
The govt should not have react in such a way, it is too much.
In term of sympathize, govt will kill off many child education and there will be some brain drain, china child normally work ve hard and study ve hard.
In term of economic, govt kill off many merchant business, the chain of economic is break in somewhere, it will affect the whole economic.

Don compare ktv girls with massage girl, ktv girls will not contribute tat much.

Think of what will happened when the PDMM cannot pay rent and kena thrown out to the streets by the landlords... they might end up have to sleep in the void deck with their kids.... imagine that...

I think before the gahmen decided to take action like this.. they should have a plan to find some kind of livelihood for these girls... if not, the problems will still be there... just turn into another form...

There are 2 types of TN:
A Those manned by PDMM and everyone is talking about them.
B Those manned by SYT. Less talk about them becos they are more discrete and not that many around. It is the same thing except that sex is the main course and not a dessert. And loopholes there are many, many la. They are registered as health and beauty and supposed to offer facials, foot massage and so forth. But the biggest loopholes are their excuse to stay here. Some got student pass - that is a big joke where they enrole in some wayang schools offering English class or even pastry making class, and everyone in the class is a SYT whose main purpose is here to make a fast buck. I heard there are other passed like commercial passes and some other kinds of social visit pass that enable them to stay more than 2 weeks.

I think the fine of $1000 is a big joke. If the shop can make 5k or more a month, and get fined 1k once in say 6 months or so, what's the problem? Or get caught another time, just "close shop", change name and get a proxy to register the business and just continue to operate again, just as per normal. Another hole in the net, not quite like a loophole.

Well, there are plenty of alternative jobs around. Like dishwashing in food courts, chambermaid in hotels, part-time domestic maids, hawker's assistant and so forth.... But then, most of these jobs require long hours, shift work and continuous hard work and with some OT pay, they could get like $1200 or so.

But these pdmm prefer to work in TN - just say 3 jobs of 3 hours a day, with the rest of the day chit-chat with each other, the camaradery among them and the potential of earning fast buck and some tips. A HJ is a Ferrari speed fast buck earner - just shaking for like 10 minutes to get 30 bucks, it is $180 per hr or 35k a month!
