A club spokesman said: "Unfortunately Momo will require surgery which is scheduled to take place next week."

It is anticipated he will be out of action for three months."[/SIZE]

He will be missed in the middle. I believe even Gerrard playing in the middle would not dislodge him.
Great quality and phenominal defending.

I do hope so however Rafa is quite resolute about Gereard playing on the right. Maybe Agger?
Still, I'm hopeful we can get a result away from home this weekend.

sumhow me like dirk kuyt leh ... n article on kuyt 4 ur reading pleasure ...

You Ain't Seen Nothin' Like The Mighty Dirk Kuyt
by Mark P

It’s putting it mildly to say that recent big money Liverpool strikers haven’t exactly been a rip roaring success.

El Hadji Diouf did everything he possibly could to turn adulation to hatred amongst Reds following his £10m signing from Lens. Djibril Cisse was the next high profile arrival and, although unlucky with injuries, his constant moans after misplaced passes from team-mates and frustrating lack of commitment at times meant he, like Diouf never got close to challenging Ian Callaghan’s record for Liverpool appearances. Throw Fernando Morientes and Emile Heskey into the mix and it’s clear why the arrival of Dirk Kuyt in August, whilst certainly welcomed, wasn’t turned into a Newcastle style fawning over a player we had not yet seen.

His performances at the World Cup had many pundits doubting his ability to play in a league better than the substandard Dutch Eredivisie, even though his flawless reputation in the eyes of the Feyernoord faithful was well documented. But if any doubts lingered in the minds of Reds they were firmly eased with a forty minute cameo against West Ham. After a lacklustre display by Liverpool was brought to life by two quick goals to bring the score to two one, and Kuyt was brought on just after. The Dutchman immediately took the ball and, with his first touches, had a shot from thirty yards out, just whizzing past the post of Roy Carroll. As introductions go it was more like grabbing someone and shaking them rather than just shaking their hand.

He was intelligent and full of running all game showing two abilities that had recently seemed Liverpool strikers were destined to go without – actually heading the ball and non-stop running. At the end as players acknowledged the fans at the end, Kuyt was busy applauding the Anny Road End as the rest of the players were on their way back to the dressing room. As Kuyt was left on the pitch on his own, he clapped all the Centenary Stand before standing, alone, clenching his fists and enthusiastically clapping the Kop as the Kop gave their approval of their new striker. In an age were we are constantly moaning about players who couldn’t care less about the audience they play for, it was a breath of fresh air to see that it really did mean something to Kuyt. In fact, there are a few regulars around me who usually get off with five minutes left mysteriously stay until all players have left the pitch this season!

His finishing against Reading amongst others show that he will more or less certainly hit the twenty goals a season mark, something we’ve badly missed since Michael Owen and Robbie Fowler were in their pomp. It’s not just his instincts a natural finisher that will make him a huge asset in coming seasons, he can shoot from distance and can head the ball when in the area, something Messrs Bellamy and Crouch struggle with. There’s no use employing Pennant or Gonzalez to hit the touchline and cross the ball if the striker on the end lets the ball bounce off his head rather than actually putting a bit of force into his header.

Whilst Cisse, Diouf and Morientes were all welcomed on their arrival and heralded as the answer to striking problems, it’s hard to see Kuyt going a similar way and coming nowhere near to living up to his billing. Whether Kuyt has a bad game or an excellent one, you get the impression that he will not stop going and harassing defenders in possession, something Cisse and Diouf struggled with. Morientes, for all his effort, just never got to grips with the pace and physical nature of the Premiership, something Kuyt already seems to have adjusted to and seems to relish, never moaning about hard but fair challenges and putting a fair few in himself.

Kuyt has already built up an instant rapport with the fans, as seen last night at Birmingham where there were at least three different songs that got going for him, and his arrival in replace of Fowler was greeted as loudly and enthusiastically as if it were Fowler himself coming on. Effort in games is a huge thing to football fans, as we have seen with the surprising hero status of people like Biscan and Meijer recently for us, whilst other far more talented players like Ince and Heskey haven’t made as big an impression through sometimes not showing real effort.

A few years ago as Djibril Cisse went through his usual repertoire of animated gestures after a slightly misplaced pass, someone commented that if we could have a player that had Cisse’s ability and Erik Meijer’s heart and passion we’d have a hell of a player.

In Dirk Kuyt, we might have actually found as close a copy as we'll ever get of that combination.

Gerard is versatile ..but he excelled better in middle. i hope benitez can experienced the possibilities of deploying Bellamy on the right.... (something like Arjen Robben who play on the left for chelsea)...then Pool have more attacking option....Finnan will do more covering..rather than venturing up...

Saw that incident on TV and it looked really scary. Reminded me of Cisse's broken leg incident.

Damn. Just when Liverpool is just about to kick into gear and get something going and this has to happen. But Sisoko is a fighter and let's hope he comes back earlier than expected.

Looks like maybe Zenden may play more now.

Cheers

Re: Liverpool Fc @ Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings

If you watch Pool's games closely, you realise Stevie doesnt play on the right only. In some recent games where Momo and Alonso have also started, Stevie has spent nearly half the time in the middle.

So no prob for Stevie to continue having a roving role. Problem is who then to replace Momo. Zenden doesnt cut it for me, gives away the ball too much.

I have to agree that Bellamy should be a winger than a Striker. Fowler should be given more chance to play and Warnock can take on as left winger too.

I hope Rafa just leave Gerrard in his favorite position, that is the center.

Yep, therein lies the problem for Benitez. He has little cover for Sisoko. The only person in the si milar mould is Zenden --you know those type that a re more physical and go in hard one. But I have to agree, Zenden does give the ball away too much, and run around too much like a headless chicken sometimes. But, good thing is he has a lot of energy and sometimes when attacking, he does give good value add, like he did when contributing to 2 of the Bellamy chances against Birmingham. Liverpool really needs a hard tackling chap in the middle to win the ball back, esp in away matches.

The problem with players like Pennant, Zenden and Bellamy is we all know that they are fantastic players but it seems that playing for Pool this season, they need a On/Off switch to get them going....

Can i add that the switch is off more often than on?

They are good players, though I feel Pennant is abit expensive, but they yet to product the form they are capable of...

My team for Arse vs Liverpool.

...................Reina

Finnan.....Carra.....Agger .....Riise

Pennant.....Alonso.....Gerrard.....Gonzalez

...............Kuyt......Crouch

Tomas Rosicky has picked up a hamstring problem and will be out for an estimated 10 days.
Ljungberg is also out.

With both of them out, if we able to stop supply to Henry,......Henry is nothing.

We don't have to worry about Rosicky, or Ljungberg, wonder if both Rosicky and Ljunberg absence will make us be more attack minded. Our away form is crap, so hopefully we field an attacking side.

The problem we have is that both of Arsenals centre back seem to run faster than our strikers if we go with Kuyt/Crouch.

I agree that Pennant is more Off than On. He seems like those quite lazy type. Once he loses the ball, he don't usually chase it back, much like Garcia. But when he is in good mood, he provides very good and telling crosses. And he dribbles very good too and got good pace.

Zenden I feel tries too hard. He is most time On, but On the wrong ball, hehehehe. Runs around too much chasing after shadows.

Bellamy will eventually come good. Just need a goal to boost his confidence. And Benitez need to make better use of his speed.

Cheers

Really looking forward to tonight's game. All my potato chips and maggie mee ready liao .....

I hope Benitez will use the wingers more to take advantage of Arsenal still not getting used to the wider Emirates stadium. I can see Pennant posing some real problems down the right. But, on the left, Gonzalez hasn't quite worked for me. Don't feel that he is that speedy leh. Also, skill wise machiam not there yet. Maybe needs more games to get seasoned.

BTW, any bro knows what happened to the Brazilian chap Fabio Aurelio guy?
