Re: Liverpool Fc Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings
fellow Reds,
the most important issue now,is to get over those ownership's issue fast and before the new season starts. with new ownership, there will surely be injection of cash for players and new stadium. hope that when the issue is finally resolved,Gerrard can see some hope and stay on to lead us.

Benitez slaps £15million price tag on Crouch
Rafael Benitez has slapped a £15m price tag on England striker Peter Crouch on the day that he lost his first-team coach Alex Miller and confirmed that Harry Kewell will leave Liverpool. And the Anfield chief also revealed that he had held talks with Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill over the potential transfer of midfielder Gareth Barry to Liverpool. Benitez accepts that Crouch could have his head turned after a frustrating season when he has found first-team chances hard to come by - but the Spaniard insists he will not be leaving on the cheap. 'Crouch wants to play every week but knows he must fight it out with Fernando Torres,' Benitez said. 'We keep seeing Portsmouth linked with the player but we have had no offer as yet. 'A £15m price tag would not be unreasonable.' On Kewell's departure, Benitez added: 'We have tried to come to an agreement with the player and his agent, but that has not been possible. 'Kewell will leave the club at the end of his contract.' It is believed that Kewell has rejected a new deal on reduced wages. Benitez also explained further the pending saga over Barry, and revealed that nothing more will happen until after this weekend's closing round of league matches. He said: 'I have spoken to Martin O'Neill, he knows my ideas. 'But we agreed to wait until the end of the season for any more discussions.'

Re: Liverpool Fc Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings
O'Neill blasts Benitez over Barry
Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill has dismissed as 'absolutely crazy' Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez's latest remarks in an escalating row over Gareth Barry. O'Neill reacted angrily last week when news of Liverpool's £10million bid for the England midfielder was made public. Benitez claimed on Thursday he was surprised by O'Neill's indignation because the pair had discussed the 'idea' of a Barry transfer - which could include a player exchange - '20 days ago'. O'Neill responded on Friday by when he said: 'What idea did I have? I've got absolutely no idea! I have no idea what he's talking about. It's absolutely crazy. 'It suggests this is a conversation that I wanted to keep going, to keep on the boiling pot. Absolutely not. It's a complete nonsense. 'This is not something I initiated and I certainly was not on the phone to him to ask him about his players either, which I think is something he's trying to refer to. 'That is not true. He mentioned players himself but I might not be interested in any of his players.' Benitez claimed on Thursday that after the pair spoke, O'Neill told him he would discuss the matter with owner Randy Lerner and it could then be dealt with at the end of the season. Liverpool then made their official bid. O'Neill reacted to this by claiming he was 'particularly disappointed' with Liverpool's timing and by the fact it was made public. He also revealed how unimpressed with the package he was by adding that Liverpool were not offering straight cash but 'an offer involving a mish-mash of nameless player exchanges'. Benitez claimed O'Neill had known 'everything about my idea and I knew about his idea'. But O'Neill has rubbished suggestions that Benitez's remarks somehow expose their previous conversation. He added: I'm absolutely astonished at this story, 'Rafa Exposes O'Neill'. 'I've never denied speaking to Rafa Benitez so how can you be exposed for something you haven't denied? 'I think Rafa is being very clever here. He gives the impression that there's been constant dialogue. That's simply and utterly untrue. 'He made a phone call to me - I did not initiate the phone call. He asked about Gareth Barry and I said: 'Well he's got a testimonial and two years left to run and he's our best player.' So what would the reaction be? 'I said that I would speak to our owner - obviously because he has a big, big say in the proceedings - and I assumed he would have the same answer as myself - that Gareth wasn't for sale. 'So I'm astonished to read this. The next conversation I had with Rafa Benitez was last Friday morning when Liverpool had put in a faxed offer to us which we received on Thursday afternoon.'

Re: Liverpool Fc Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings
Congrats to Torres. He's now the reconrd holder for most goals scored in a debut season by a foreigner in the EPL. He's been a great buy and even if he costs $20 million pounds as speculated, he looked value for money. In fact, he looks a cheap buy now.
I wish we can buy more players in this price range. The extra quality shows. While it's important to not pay more than a player is worth (wun wish to pay $24 million pounds for a $12 million pound player), I think we need more world-class players. They don't come cheap but from what we had bought recently, they are worth every single cent. Torres... Macherano for example. We have been shopping in the $5-$12 million pound range and a lot of such players look overpriced! There are so many mid-range players that hasn't performed for us. Pennant, Kuyt for example. How i wish we can consolidate the money and buy just 1-2 GREAT player. |
