Barcelona 2 - 1 Real Sociedad : Messi and Tello on target

Lionel Messi scored one goal and set up another as Barcelona stayed seven points behind Real Madrid with victory over Real Sociedad at the Nou Camp - but Pep Guardiola's men were made to work hard for their triumph.

Messi's fine pass led to youngster Cristian Tello opening the scoring early on and the Argentina international doubled his side's lead in the 72nd minute with his 23rd league goal of the campaign.

However, Sociedad, who had caused Barcelona several problems at the back during the match, pulled a goal back immediately through substitute Carlos Vela to leave the home side facing a nervy finale.

Barcelona held on for the win though to ensure that Madrid, who beat Getafe earlier in the evening, would not edge any further ahead in the title fight.

2nd Leg (Barcelona wins 3-1 on agg)

A goal in each half from Cesc Fabregas and Xavi ensured Barcelona progressed to the Copa del Rey final at the expense of ten-man Valencia.

There was all to play for with the tie finely balanced at 1-1 heading into Wednesday's second leg at the Camp Nou, and the hosts needed only 16 minutes to take the lead through a neat finish from Fabregas.

Sofiane Feghouli was sent off for the visitors in the 76th minute for a second bookable offence and soon after Xavi eased any Barca nerves by grabbing his side's second goal.

Barca will face Athletic Bilbao in the final after the Basque club completed an 8-3 aggregate win over Mirandes on Tuesday night.

Osasuna 3 - 2 Barcelona : Barca stunned

Osasuna dealt a further blow to Barcelona's Primera Division title hopes by inflicting a 3-2 defeat at Estadio Reyno de Navarra on Saturday night.

Two goals from Dejan Lekic had the home side in control at half-time - but Alexis Sanchez pulled a goal back six minutes into the second half.

Raul Garcia made it 3-1 to the home side five minutes later but substitute Cristian Tello netted a second for Barcelona 17 minutes from the end.

There were several clear chances at both ends and a disallowed goal for the visitors - but Osasuna held on for victory to leave Barcelona still seven points adrift of leaders Real Madrid, who play Levante at home on Sunday.

Bayer Leverkusen 1 - 3 Barcelona : Advantage Barca

1st Leg

Barcelona put one foot in the quarter-finals of the Champions League with a 3-1 victory over a Bayer Leverkusen side who might wonder what would have been had they attacked from the start.

After the German hosts sat deep to frustrate Barca in the first half, Alexis Sanchez's first Champions League goal, scored in the 41st minute, separated the teams at the break.

But Leverkusen came out with a much more positive outlook after the break, levelling through Michal Kadlec and then having several chances before Sanchez's second and a late Lionel Messi strike gave Barca victory.

Four goals from Lionel Messi put third-placed Valencia to the sword on a night when Barcelona could have scored a dozen but for the efforts of visiting goalkeeper Diego Alves.

Valencia took a surprise lead through Pablo Piatti in the ninth minute, but Barca's response was composed and clinical as they tore the visiting defence to shreds, producing chance after chance as Messi scored twice before half-time and then twice more in the final 15 minutes.

He then found time to help set up Xavi Hernandez for a fifth in injury time.

Atlético Madrid 1 - 2 Barcelona : Barca keep pressure on

Lionel Messi's stunning free-kick nine minutes from time handed Barcelona a hard-fought Primera Division victory over Atletico Madrid at the Vicente Calderon.

The Argentina forward had a goal ruled out early on for handball but played a part as Dani Alves opened the scoring eight minutes before half-time.

Atletico levelled just after the break as Radamel Falcao Garcia turned in Gabi's corner and the Colombian had a great chance to give Los Rojiblancos the lead on 69 minutes but was denied by a fine save from Victor Valdes.

Lionel Messi scored five goals as Champions League holders Barcelona destroyed unfortunate Bayer Leverkusen to confirm their place in the Champions League quarter-finals.

Barca had been understated but superior in the first leg in Germany, winning 3-1, and were expected to ease through in tonight's return match.

However, they played with trademark hunger under Pep Guardiola as Messi became the first player to score five in a single Champions League game while substitute Cristian Tello added two in a performance of startling brilliance.

Karim Bellarabi managed a consolation in added time.

Racing Santander 0 - 2 Barcelona : Barca keep pressure on

Barcelona closed the gap on Real Madrid at the top of the Primera Division back to 10 points thanks to another two goals from Lionel Messi in a 2-0 win at Racing Santander.

Andres Iniesta had hit the crossbar and Cesc Fabregas was denied by a fine save from Mario Fernandez before Messi did put the visitors in front as he slid in to meet Fabregas' cross in the 29th minute.

And the Argentinian doubled his and Barca's tally for the day when a penalty was given after Fabregas went down softly under Domingo Cisma's challenge and Messi sent Mario the wrong way from the spot.
