School counsellors islandwide receive on average about 100 such cases reported to them every year. On looking into the details many were not genuine cases where the accused had the intention to commit molestation. Out of these 100 cases, maybe about 70% of them were due to cramped living quarters where body contact is inevitable due to the sleeping arrangements. The remaining 29% are usually malicious reports due to rivalry / jealousy / bad blood between the accused / victim. And only 1% of the cases are referred to the police for investigation.
