Hanoians wrap up against the cold as winter descends

An unexpected cold snap has hit northern Vietnam over the last few days.

The first cold spell of winter has surrounded northern Vietnam this week, including the capital Hanoi. Temperatures in the city are hovering at around 18-20 degrees Celsius by day and 15-17 degrees Celsius by night.

While small traders are making the most of the opportunities the inclement weather offers, homeless people are huddled under their blankets on Hanoi’s sidewalks.

The National Meteorological Forecasting Agency predicts that temperatures in Hanoi will will rise to over 22 degrees Celsius on Friday, and then jump to 30 degrees Celsius over the weekend.

Uber hikes fares in Hanoi by 50 percent

The move could cost the ride-hailing company its competitive edge in Vietnam.

The ride-hailing company Uber has decided to raise fares for its UberX service in Hanoi by 50 percent in a move that will likely make it much less competitive.

The minimum fee for an UberX ride is now VND15,000 ($6.7), compared to VND5,000 perviously, while the per kilometer rate has also been bumped from VND5,000 to VND7,500.

Taxi firms in the city generally ask for more, but the new price hikes mean the popular UberX service could lose some of its competitive edge.

Its main rival in Vietnam is Grab. Both companies also require a so-called surge charge for rush hour rides.

The more expensive Uber Black service has not been given a fare hike.

Some Uber riders say the new rates have made Uber X quite pricey.

Nguyen Quynh Anh, a frequent user, said she used to recommend the cab service to her friends and relatives but now decided to wait it out until prices come down.

“Now the Uber fee has increased sharply, so perhaps I can't use the service often,” said Anh.

if you book your room as 2 person but register at counter with only 1 person. you can bring a friend in.

However, visit is only till 10pm.

Report on Oasis Spa on Lang Ha street in Hanoi.

Summary: Run down, shabby place. But pretty girls and pleasant no-hassle experience.

This place is across the street from the Fortuna hotel. Spa is on the 5th floor.
