Re: HIV screening info

Hi Guys

Just went DSC clinic last nite for my 1st screening, did not realize it was for AFA. But lucky that it opened till late at 8pm.

My encounter earlier in the afternoon: tried a local mina & condom broke in the v!

Wanted to go for a routine check earlier but this incident has prompt me to act faster. However the window period is only after 3 wks to be able test for the anti-bodies & confirmation is after another 3 months window period again.

The next option for me was to get the FL to go for the check asap, there is a window period of 3 wks incubation period for her as well hence can only check if shes infected prior to 3 wks or earlier.

However, in any event, if anyone feels that there is a high risk of being infected, a 48-hr window period is open to undergo treatment immediately to minimize the possibility of infection, called the (PE..something?).

Have also confirmed with counseller the myth that tramission is possible thru BBBJ as well. 4 types of fluid exchange to look out are semem, vaginal fluid, blood & breast milk.

Cheong safe so that we can cheong longer. More importantly, I feel that I need to be repsonsible to my spouse despite my addiction to FLs.

Just my 2 cents' worth, Take care for all!

Anyway, my result negative.

Cheers

Re: HIV screening info

mate...
your result might be negative now.
but it is not conclusive
you will have to do 2 more tests at least,
one after a month and the other after 3 month.

Re: HIV screening info

Quick Qns, i remember reading some where before, going for the test 1 month after exposure, is about 90% accuracy, while 3 months is conclusive. Is that right?

As for the charges, do they charge the same for all the clinics that provide the oral test?

Re: HIV screening info

there are people who are tested positive after the 3 month period
though not many, but there are. read the following..

Go Ask Alice!: HIV antibodies at 3 or 6 months
Quote:
Dear Alice,
What is the percentage of people who develop enough antibodies for HIV virus in the first three months after exposure? Does the length of window period depend only on the response of one's immune system or also on the amount of infectious fluid that was transferred during sex?

—Interested

Dear Interested,
You're right to point out that it can take time for the body to produce enough antibodies for an HIV test to detect. This "window period" varies from person to person, but the average time it takes for a person to develop antibodies is 25 days. After three months, 97 percent of people who are infected with HIV will have enough antibodies to test positive. For this reason, if a person tests negative for HIV within the first three months after they may have been exposed, it's recommended that s/he gets a repeat test after three months have passed. Although a higher volume of body fluid can increase the risk of transmitting the virus, the amount of infected fluid transferred won't affect the window period.

Getting tested after three months helps decrease the likelihood of a false negative (i.e., a person who is HIV-positive but tests negative). A person who tests negative after three months is probably not infected. Rarely, it can take up to six months for an infected person to test positive, but repeat testing after six months have passed is only suggested if the person has a high risk of contracting HIV — for example, s/he had sex without a condom with a partner known to be HIV-positive — or if the person or his/her health care provider is still concerned. Generally, extended testing beyond the six-month mark isn't recommended.

Keep in mind that it can be difficult to pinpoint when a person was exposed to HIV and thus whether enough time has passed to be confident in the test results. Rather than try to figure out if three months have passed since exposure, some people choose to get tested at regular intervals, especially if they are consistently at some risk for HIV.

Re: HIV screening info

Just curious...what exactly are the odds of getting infected??

in this article....
USATODAY.com - Study gives odds on HIV infection

it is approx 0.2%....but of course, it`s dated 2001, so it might not be too accurate. I`ve seen sites(not sure credible or not) that give many other odds of up to 25% and as low as 1 in 100,000. There seem to be a myrid of factors affecting the odds..e.g. viral count, type of intercourse(but wan to know on vaginal only), partners activity..etc

is there any recent medical journal that does a comprehensive study on the odds??just curious that`s all....don`t really wish to start a thread on this as some bros might see the initial odds as encouraging numbers.

NOT ADVOCATING UNPROTECTED SEX....Know that bottomline is still SAFETY FIRST....just that a recent discussion with a friend increase my curiousity abt this topic.

Re: HIV screening info

Bros - just an observation. Some weeks back the govt released stats about an increase in HIV infections in S'pore. New cases apparently exceeded that of France it seems. The question here is - if it is anonymous testing, how the hell are they able to tell that it is a new infection case?

I'm beginning to think that its a load of horse shit that they are dishing out, telling people that it is anonymous testing.

And what happens if its a positive test? Are they going to let you waltz off, hoping that every single positive case won't go about plunging their infected dicks in any available twat in a vengeful effort to spread the disease?

Some how, this all doesn't quite add up. I may be paranoid, but it looks to me that it is anything but anonymous. What do you all think?

Re: HIV screening info

Anonymous testing means we don't take your personal particulars. But we do keep track of the number of positive cases. And we (Action for AIDS) advise positive cases on how to seek treatment and followup.

Re: HIV screening info

Dear bros,

just wish to share some experiences here with u all. I am quite a hot blooded mAle here, in my twenties. Currently attached but not really enjoy the sex and hence that make me turn towards paid sex.

Week in week out I will visit pros and fufill my urge. HIV did came across my mind but I still continue till 1 incident happen to me. Visit one of the stable and gotten a Thai sweetie. The action is fast and furious. Bbbj was like heaven and I tend to have a soft spot for that, therefore is always unprotected. After 1 rnd, we showered and she told me she has blood in her mouth due to her nose bleeding half way throughout the session. I freaked out immed.

Since that day onwards, symptoms appear out of no where and is driving me crazy. I called my insurance agents to increase my premium so as my family can claim if I were to kill myself. Life was miserable and most importantly, the wait till the window period.

Finally, today at the sixth week, I got my self tested. Results is negative which brings relief instantly. I jus wish to advise the bros here, regardless of fj or bj, Dom Dom is a must!!! It's better safe then sorry. Live to cherish what u have
and stay healthy! Wish all bros gd luck and gd health!!!
