I'm so sorry, Bro no_faith. Failed to see the changes, apologies. Guess we're Man after all, motivation keeps Man going! No out-and-out striker, now that Wayne's out for 2 months, perhaps Tevez could 'provide' the final lethal finishing the Devils are yearning for.

Bro JWNY,
There is only one team in the past 10 years who has broken the curse. And they just beat Birmingham 3-2. Come on the Chels! |

I agree with you, Bro no_faith. Reading's gonna get all their men behind the ball, and adpot a man to man marking system. Just look @ the previous match, their defensive tactical discipline is excellent; notably looking @ the Duberry, a centre back getting out of position on purpose because Reading was going for a man marking tactical approach. Reading's one gung ho team. Defending holding on as if their lives depends on it. It's gonna be difficult, but I'm sure SWP and Malouda will have other ideas in getting Reading's defence mixed up, Mikel and Essien will outmuscule Reading's stubborn midfield. Ben Haim, and Richie partnership in defence has been excellent. Last but not least, Pizzaro, Drogba and Sheva, any permutations between these 3 strikers are more than efficient to provide that killer goal instinct. The only weak link? Glen Johnson, he's not commited enough. When we play 4-4-2 with wingers, there's width; it'll be wider, the defence will feel a little stretch, it's paramount for the defence to be spot on, sniffing out dangers. Otherwise we will be letting in soft goals; like the ones against the Birmingham boys. Back then when Chelsea played 4-3-3 with a diamond midfield, there's wasn't any wing play tactical approach. Hence the team formation was more compact. This was the reason why in the previous seasons, Chelsea didn't concede many goals. So this season, because of the different tactical approach, an increase in goals conceded in this new season will be inevitable. Re: Chelsea FC - Supporters' Rally
MAKING UP FOR LOST TIME
Alex was unveiled as a Chelsea player today, and we can reveal he has been given the number 33 shirt. The Brazilian, signed last week from Dutch side PSV, stated that he was 'very happy to be here', and is looking forward to his Blues career taking off. Manager José Mourinho is pleased with his new acquisition, and believes there is now enough strength in depth to cover for injuries to his defence. 'Maybe one of the reasons why we lost the championship last year was because we had not enough defenders,' said Mourinho. 'We lost Huth and Gallas in pre-season and did all season with Terry and Carvalho and a bit of Boulahrouz. We had no other solutions, not even competitiveness between them.' Now though, he has four centre backs at his disposal, with Alex joining other new boy Tal Ben-Haim alongside Terry and Carvalho. Mourinho is now content with the competition within his squad, with most positions having at least two players wanting to be out on the pitch. 'There is no reasons to be shaking like we were shaking last season. In this moment we have a good balance, we are strong in every position,' Mourinho said. 'I think if Alex wants an easy comfortable life he will choose a different club, if he wants to play at a high level he knows the squad is strong. It's the same thing, he's Brazilian, to play in the national team there's 6 or 7 more so big competition and Chelsea is the same.' The 6ft 2in defender has been based in Europe for the past three seasons, and has won consecutive titles with PSV, something that impresses Mourinho. 'I said the same with Pizarro, a player who played four or five years in a big club like Bayern Munich means he's not scared to play in the responsibilities of Chelsea. 'Especially when he plays in the most famous national team in the history of football. Playing for Brazil is a big responsibility and the yellow shirt is very heavy. If he can cope with that in the national team, I hope he can cope with Chelsea. 'Last season I was scared every time a central defender was having a tough challenge. In this moment, not now, when all of them are ready, I can be breathing normal because now I have a very good group of central defenders.' Having been based in the Eredivisie for the past three campaigns, Alex has developed a familiarity with the European game, and his Champions League exploits are well documented after scoring against Arsenal last season. He has no fears about an improvement in the quality between Holland and the Premier League. 'I think the style of play is similar but the quality in this country is higher than in Holland. I hope to adapt as quick as possible because I know here there are so many good players and the pressure is much higher than it used to be in Holland.' Having waited three years, it's a relief for the defender to finally be at Stamford Bridge. 'I would love to have joined Chelsea three years ago but it wasn't possible so I'm really happy to be here now. 'As I said before there was a problem because of the work permit, but it was good for me because I got 3 years experience with PSV, but finally I'm here at Chelsea and I'm happy to be here and hopefully I'll help the team to win many trophies. 'The important thing is for me to be here, work hard and be prepared for the manager to select me for the team. I'm very happy to be here and hopefully I'll be part of the team and help them do well in every competition.' Re: Chelsea FC - Supporters' Rally
Alves set for Chelsea as Robben nears exit
Chelsea are on the brink of finally completing the signing of Sevilla's Daniel Alves, with Arjen Robben set to quit Stamford Bridge for Real Madrid. Reports in Spain were last night suggesting the Alves deal was imminent after he was left out of Sevilla's squad for the Champions League third qualifying round first-leg tie against AEK Athens./news/story?id=453268&cc= The highly-rated Brazilian wideman has not been selected by Juande Ramos for tonight's home encounter, despite being fit, and the decision to omit him from the side has heightened speculation that he is set to get his dream move to Chelsea. The 24-year-old is keen to join the Blues - and while Ramos describes Alves as a very important part of his team, he admits his days could be numbered. 'It's true that Daniel has an important role in this team, especially in our attacking play,' said the manager. 'It's also true that two teams like Madrid and Chelsea are trying to acquire his services. 'We will try to overcome his absence (against Athens) with another player who will show the same ambition as him.' Playing against the Greeks would have made Alves cup-tied for European competition. Robben's long awaited move to Real Madrid is even closer, with Marca claiming Chelsea are ready to accept Real's offer of 30million euros for the Dutchman. Mourinho, it appears, has finally accepted Robben can move on - and a deal is likely to be given the final go-ahead once the Alves situation is clarified. Chelsea refused to comment on the mounting speculation - although they did unveil Brazilian defender Alex yesterday. Alex joined Chelsea from PSV Eindhoven this summer but is still not fit enough to be considered for tonight's Barclays Premier League clash with Reading at the Madejski stadium. He helped Brazil to lift the Copa America during the summer - and declared his new Chelsea team-mates possessed the same quality as his Samba co-stars. Alex said: 'The level is the same at Chelsea. They have many players at the club who also play for their countries. 'I am sure all the players at Chelsea are the same quality in level as the Brazilian team.' Alex accepts his physical condition is not at the required level to claim a place in the Chelsea line-up, but he is determined to increase his fitness levels quickly. The defender added: 'I am aware of the situation but I've always had to fight for my place throughout my career. 'I want to get fit enough to be ready for when the manager calls for me. 'I expect to be fit in about two weeks from now. After three years waiting to get here, I am more motivated and happy to be here.'

Re: Chelsea FC - Supporters' Rally
PRE-MATCH BRIEFING: READING V CHELSEA
We're ready to hit e road for e first time in the league campaign & club historian Rick Glanvill & statistician Paul Dutton hve all the info needed for e short trip down the M4. Having seen his side take a small early advantage over e reigning champions, Rick has been assessing the significance. So, it's all over. Both sets of coaching staff were demanding a perfect start to e new Premier League campaign, & only one set of players responded. Chelsea thrilled in a 3-2 win over Birmingham City tt was slick & spellbinding at times; United looked subdued & disjointed in a 0-0 draw against our next opponents, Reading. It's become an accepted fact that e team that starts slowly loses the race. But is it true? To a degree, yes. Since 2003 e margin for error has been tiny. In e season unbeaten Arsenal won the League in 2004, Chelsea under Claudio Ranieri finished second. After nine games - just under a third of the season, and what might reasonably be called 'the start' - Chelsea had drawn two games and lost one; United had lost and drawn one, so enjoyed a two-point advantage that disappeared by May. In 2004/5, the year Chelsea first won e title under José Mourinho, Chelsea had drawn two & lost one at the same stage, while Sir Alex Ferguson's side had drawn five & lost only to Chelsea - a six-point deficit from which e Reds never recovered. After nine games of our successful title defence in 2005/6, Chelsea were straight winners all the way but United had slipped to three draws and one defeat. That was the opening deficit that made Fergie say 'Never again'. Last season, when United appeared to storm out of the blocks, in actual fact both sides had again lost and drawn one each. The fact is that unlike the past there is no let up, and no period more important the next; title-winners never have a dodgy period as may have happened in the past. It's neck and neck until one horse tires and fades. The problem arises when, as with Liverpool and Arsenal in recent years, too many points have been dropped early on to sustain a meaningful challenge for the League. United need not worry too much about the two points that went astray on the opening game of the season: they did the same thing two seasons running when they became champions - 1998-2000. Reading achieved Sunday's upset with a stifling plan and a well-organised performance. No team pushes forward more, tries to get behind a team to a greater extent and aims to fire in crosses than the Old Trafford mob. Manager Steve Coppell obviously knew that nine in every ten United goals is scored from inside e box. His concept was not just to cut off the supply lines, but e supply to e supply lines. He doubled up on key players, had his players play a high line of defence with e able goalie Marcus Hahnemann sweeping up, pressed mercilessly around e halfway line, and deployed man-markers on e more free-moving creatives in United's side. With experts placing e Royals on e 'at risk' register for 'second season syndrome' - e idea tt a newly-promoted side soon gets sussed & struggles - will e sanguine Coppell try e same tactic at home against Chelsea? Will Royals fans let him? There is more of course to this fixture. Reading is a town with a high percentage of Chelsea-supporting residents; regulars at e Madejski don't like their nearest big Premier League neighbours. And then there are e events of last season's match. Two visiting keepers exited injured, John Terry donned Hilario's shirt for e closing moments, and all three Chelsea custodians kept a clean sheet. The Premier League has since issued stricter guidelines regarding medical provision at football stadiums. Mourinho's men rallied to win 1-0. Reading had not dropped a home point until then; later they drew with United and to Liverpool and Arsenal. Blackburn, Everton and Watford similarly left Berkshire with all three points. With a second successive away match for Chelsea at Liverpool to follow on Sunday (the Reds start their Champions League qualification in midweek) there may be one or two team changes, but such was the quality of performance that few places would be under threat on merit. Andre Villas's scouting of the United game may suggest some tweaks to upset Reading plans, while any team would be stronger for the return of fit-again Didier, and Michael Essien may not be risked if his knee injury persists. Might Steve Sidwell make a quick return to the turf he recently trod? And who will be handed a frostier reception - the Royals star who quit to better himself, or, from visiting supporters, the feisty midfielder Steve Hunt? P.S: List Of UPPEES is not in full due to the capacity limitation of the signature function (not be longer than 300 characters excluding BB Code markup). Rest assured I've all ur nicks n u'll be awarded. If I do missed u, kindly PM me. Appreciate the PM, Bro David_Ginola!
