Guifei was not attractive at all and yeah fat I agree. Just like the victorian era where plumb women are in fashion. Dowager Cixi isn't what you call sweet or cute looking at all in fact I saw many photographs when I was in China palaces, I can't help but think she looks like those wrinkled red indian woman. With a stern look to top that.
Maybe the the emperor was being told of the definition of beauty (Hey, fat is the in thing for now! when i went china to visit their ancient palaces etc etc...i saw pics of those so call beauties...their defination of beauty is definately so much more different then us...their time...their beauties to us are now call as plain jane... plump is the in thing during their times too...

In the past beautiful girls are judged by the size of their feet. The smaller they are the most beautiful the girl. Smaller feet depict aslo young age. Probably there is some reasons behind. Any brother know about feet?

That custom started during the Song dynasty but only caught on during the Ming-Qing era. At first it was because small feet meant that they were from well to do families (no need to do hard labour) and that they were dainty and graceful when they moved about.

The custom was forbidden under the Qing but nobody gave a damn. As such, it became also a sign of presitege to have one such girl as your concubine.

By the way, guangxu was not only childless, he was also just the nephew of CiXi. He most likely poisoned after the 100 days reformation period, because aritocratic manchurian officials like Rong Lu was afraid of his position. Rong Lu happened to be the grandfather of last emperor Pu Yi.

One more thing to add....guang xu died 1 day before Cixi...this was also why that many historians are commenting that guang xu was poisioned....
