Re: Khmer Diary

Thanks for the informative writings.

I just went back to PP after a long long break...when i was there moons back, there were UN peace keepers on the road still. Do the maths...

PP is a complete make-over. I cant recognise a sinlge road/street/building, not even the road in front of the house that I stayed for months. The monument is still there, proudly still.

Let's see if we can meet up for an angkor, Mr. Faidenk!

Cheers!

Re: Khmer Diary

Dear faidenk,

first of all, thank you for your hospitality last night. i did not know prior that you own a chinese restaurant along kampuche krom area. Not easy, i reckon to start a business in PP. the food is yummy, and i like your authentic singapore bak kut teh very much. Next time round, I will bring my puyings to patronize your shop.

last night was an eye opener. I went with faidenk and another of his sing brudder, bro vin to maybe close to 9 pubs to chiong nice puyings and 'peodophiles' We stopped by the famous angmoh martinis pub.. bro fai said owned by a barang.. business was good.. girls plenty. we had the famous angkor draught and three of us were eye-swooning around, readyily for our catch. but brudder vin said to move on.

we took the tuk2 to street 136, as mentioned by bro fai in his earlier post. This was fun.. all the pubs were lit up with an endless stream of smiling predators. here, we are the preys, and the girls are predators. we entered one such bar sizzler, owned by a local. girls are ard 7.0, not bad looking. Bro Vin gotten himself a 20yo chio-bu... too young for him, i guess. i nudged at bro vin to check on. she looks more like 16 yo, but claim she is 20.. we tot we r peodophile (laughingly) suddenly, we realise and laughed heartily. Bro Fai has his regular chio-bu, i guess the prettiest amongst us all.. mine was a 22 yo long-legged stunner with 33c cup, so she said. We drank and drank, with bro vin occasionally practicing his dry-out and suttured khmer words with the chiobu. bro vin could hold a khmer conversation, punctuated by oh..hw... he is so interesting.

The nite was young.. we chiong more pub along the famous bar street. next stop was bar 69, the girls are friendly and bro fai has his steady supply of chiobu waiting for him at every pub entrance. that was so exciting.. and with each pub crawl, we got a different flavour of girls. the most happening i guess was at bar 69.. here, me and bro vin tried to court a very chio bartender.. we got her ladies drink and had a great time with her.. bro, planning to come visit, plse get bro fai to bring you to this bar.. the girls are all very chio.. esp.. the two bartenders.. and they could drink very well. ask bro vin, we got her down 3 glasses and she took them in one stride. bro fai has a pretty chiobu, skinny but with voluptuous boobs. both me and bro vin try to 'xuan' her so we could grope her nice boobs. i tried once with bro vin holding on to her two hands upwards. soft and bouncy... i would say the girls are really the 'can play type' you want fun, they give you fun.. you want to drink, they drink with you.. where can you find a drink at US$1 per glass. lady drink also cheap. the 69bar has a very relax atmosphere. we saw many barangs around, some with 4-5girls each..

next, we scout more pubs with our half drunk and half high body.. chioning bars after bar.. i guess bro vin and I each drown close to 12 glasses last nite.
i will post more during our last pub crawl.. the famous darling darling with bro vin.

2 nite, at bro fai invitation, we will be heading to his local restaurant for a mouth-watering beef stew soup. thereafter, we plan to chiong more discos tonite.

bro fai, thanks for your generous time and warmth.

Wow this was a most interesting read. I was in PP way back in 2006, and i lived there 6 months (3+3) but I was mostly at the roulette joints. I did have a chick with me (but same one always) but I noticed they were mostly Vietish? (fair)

Re: Khmer Diary

last nite, another samster bro, mr sam, who has been in khmer for 18 years, brought us to several local joints or we called them beer gardens. most are open size, large size and cater mainly to local or if you can speak a little of their language. we had 5 towers of angkor beer, with ladies company and were jolting and groping several half drunk ladies. their local garden ladies maybe 5.0 looks, not comparable to those from bar street (136) those working at 136 are stunners, according to bro fai, they draw a better incentive and pay. we had many rounds of drinks, with the girls 'pounding' for lesser and lessser drinks. Sam and I just drink, with each of us drinking incessantly with the girls. bro fai and bro vin were sported with their 'naughty hands manoeuvring', occasionally drowning full glass of angkor and laughing heartily, to signal that this is part and parcel of life in khmer. the mamasan of this joint was supposed to be here to wait on us, but Sam said she got 'tapao'. bro fai and I wanted to meet her cos she has such a 'chio' figure after bro fai spotted her and sam taking lunch at his restaurant. fair skin, nice boobs and pleasant demeanour, wat's more can we ask..

tonite, we may head back to street 136 and which i would happily enjoyed before i bid them farewell, come tomorrow.

Actually there are more ethnic Vietnamese in Cambodia than I thought. They're born here, citizenship was granted to them not too long ago. It's just like the etnnic Malays in the south of Thailand.

Vietnam invaded Cambodia in 78. One would have thought they would be uneasy neighbours now, but the fact is, the Khmers are grateful for that. They drove out the Khmer Rouge and they withdrew voluntarily when the People's Republic of Kampuchea was created (royalty was brought back later).

It's a complicated situation but large tracts of land were seceded to both Thailand and Vietnam in the past and today, Cambodia retains only a fraction of its sea front.

Re: Khmer Diary

Darling darling Lounge

I went with bro vin the other nite, after bro fai gesture us to move on as he needed sleep.

the lounge was next to the nagaworld hotel, very posh, i guess frequented by the local rich and famous as well as hordes of looksee foreigners. we sat down with two smiling waitresses serving us angkor tall glass. if to say the standard of the girls, esp the waitresses, i would say that the waitresses can easily beat all girls at bar street 136. here, the atmosphere is complete different. if u been to st james or the devils bar or something of that origin, u know the different. coming back, bro vin was eyeing a particular waitress, not dancing girls. i think the lounge offers eye-catching, mouth-watering stable of stuuning looking waitresses. we could see that most of the clubbers are there to oggle at the beautiful waitresses, nice boos, long legged, and smiles that will certainly drive you crazy. me and bro vin planned again, now we need to hook up any waitress and bring her to the Rock disco after they knock off. scouting around, bro vin signalled me to move up and attack the target. her name was pann, 22 years old. i ask bro vin to drown his glass so she could at least drop by our table to offer more drink. indeed, she came, knelt down to our low table, with her boobs as if to signal to us that she is ready to be-friend us after work. we ordered another angko and off she went. other waitresses walked pass us, with two other stunners ( ard 8.5 looks) highlighted hair and body figure that are just stunning. both standing behind us and often smile when bro vin turn around to check them. that nite at darling was fun-filled, the singers belted out the 90s music and the dance floor was jam-packed with the rich local. at last, we got hold of Pann, in her usual smile and stunning beauty.. she exclaim " you cannot touch me.. this is lounge policy" i turned to bro vin and we knew that that has to be the lounge policy.. cos drunkards are easily chased-out of the lounge. they employed several bouncers to prowl on. cool, we pop the question of asking her to join us at rock disco.. she agreed and asked us to wait for her after 1am.. she will bring another stunner waitress to complete the chain, with bro vin and me.

indeed, the whole experience was awesome.. i have never come across levels of girls offered like those in PP> from beer garden quality to bar quality to top lounge quality. we are like transforming a 5.0 look to maybe 7.0 and the 8.5 above look. i guess such is the environment that we are not accustomed to in singapore. here, you determine the environment you want to be in, you decide the kinds of girls you choose to be with, and you decide the kinds of "fruit platters" you want for the night.

cheers to PP

Re: Khmer Diary

Living In Cambodia Pt 3

Learning Khmer. One of our priorities was to speak and more importantly, understand the Cambodian language. The real estate agent who secured the apartment at a bargain price, he introduced a tutor to us.

So now we have this young man coming in to our apartment everyday at 11 in the morning, an hour a day, $70 a month. Treat us like a couple of kindergarten kids, we told him, start with numbers, colors, and nouns only. As we progress we’ll try to make sentences. Easy right? Wrong. He speaks some form of English quite alienated from us, and it’s not as though we speak the Queen’s English ourselves. Even when we make a mistake, he’ll say Yes, to everything. Later we were to learn their Yes is akin to the Japanese’ ‘Aso’. He pronounced ten as ‘tern’, windows as ‘wine-dows’. But we shall persevere.

Exercise. A 10-minute walk from our apartment is a gym frequented 100% by locals, and we had to spoil their fun. Like Thailand, a sign says foreigners R2000. On the same sign, there was a R1000 in Khmer, presumably it says R1000 for Cambodians.

A 15 minute spot on the treadmill costs another R1000, and another R2000 if you want lift the weights. I get tired just looking at these. All in, the treadmill, and another 15 minutes on the thingy with the vibrating belt and the rest of the time doing situps, backups, and other torture devices costs me more than R4000, about a dollar US.

My favorite exercise help too, I now boast a vein-bulging Popeye right hand lifting all those liquid based weights.

Meals. I think I have already mentioned somewhere the Khmer palate is very inclined towards sweet. Sugar is added in almost all dishes. In the first 3 weeks here, staying at a hotel, we had to dine out. During this period I do declare my consumption of MSG has exceeded what I consume in a year. Khmers load their food with generous amount of MSG in the cooking pot, and for a good measure, another teaspoonful in the serving bowl. Talking about this makes me thirsty.

But Khmer food’s cheap, considering the average wage is $50 a month. You see the poor hawker selling the ever popular $1-noodle soup, well, they are not poor. My landlord owns 2 apartment blocks selling this no-frills meal in a dingy shop from 6 in the morning and until lunch. Of course this dish lies somewhere at the bottom of the food spectrum. Some of their snacks include deep-fried crickets, which taste a little like crispy shrimps; some kind of beetle, which taste like crickets but with a weird aftertaste, not to mention the wings need to be plucked off first. I heard fried tarantulas are delicious, but putting arachnids down my throat brings up the butterflies in my stomach. Then of course there are the perennial duck embryos – half formed with yolk as body. Served with a pinch of salt and pepper it supposed to give you a boost not unlike Viagra.
Other roadside food includes BBQ calf on spit, costs $5 a serving, it is accompanied by a sauce made from fermented fish sauce with peanuts and some herbs unrecognized to me. BBQ chickens are not too bad. A popular coffeshop at Mao Tze Tung Boulevard attracts night birds with their Teochew muay.

I ought to mention again the Happy Herb Pizza. The Happy Herb is added as an optional topping. A quirky loophole allows marijuana to be consumed as a herb legally but not smoked.

or Western cuisines, there are more than I could name although Brauhaus is here, complete with sausages and pork knuckles. I believe they are connected remotely to the Brauhaus at United Square.

There are maybe 6 or 7 restaurants specializing in Singapore/Malaysian cuisines. Jade Palace, Singapore Kitchen, Asian Spice, Klang Boy, DP Lodge, Absolute Café, the one at Holiday. There should be more but I haven’t been there yet.

Before I forget, this is probably the funniest incident I witnessed so far. At a junction, a truck, overladen 2 times over, turned from Mao Tze Tung Boulevard to Kampuchea Krom, the driver slowed down to routinely hand some Riels to a waiting policeman who pocketed it and walked back to his motorcycle to stash the loot, parked right in front of a big white letter box that announce in bold black ‘P.O. Box for Complaints Against Corruption’.

I was told Traffic cops have to pay about $12 to draw a motorcycle from their MT line for their duties, and that petrol comes out from their own pockets. Needless to say, a police car costs more. To optimize their daily take some resort to using their personal motorbikes. Now we know why the gallant men in blue are so relentless in shaking down motorists. It would be prudent to assume promotions are bought.

Awkohn, Bro Faidenk, for sharing the latest happenings in your life. I’ve read your past postings on China, and I can only say I wish I can write as well as you. I just love your latest Khmer thread and sharing your insightful thoughts on your move to Cambodia. I was in very similar state as you more than a decade ago when I moved to southern China, the land of many mei-meis since I was on my own and at an age deemed not so employable - but luckily no kid. I then saw the vast and furious change in China, but the greed I see in this go-get-rich-at-any-cost and increasingly selfish society, as well as the increasing cost of living is making me to think about where I should go from here. I have been considering Thailand and Vietnam where I have positive experience from my short term stays in the past, but I’ve never been to Cambodia. In fact, I’ve never thought about it as a possible option, but your postings have prompted me to plan on getting my ass there to check it out. Thanks again for the sharing and please keep posting; you have one avid follower and reader here!

Although Cambodia is also going through inevitable change, it is not as soul-destroying as, for example, China. Somehow they still retain their earthiness and charm. I hope the govt clamp down hard on drugs abuse though.

Re: Khmer Diary

Living In Cambodia Pt 4

Sex Enhancing Drugs. At the Cambodian 404 forum, someone wrote in to ask if Viagra and the likes are available in Phnom Penh. An old-timer advised that such prescription drugs are as difficult to buy as aspirin. You go figure,

So far I’ve walked into 2 pharmacies in Phnom Penh, one a pharmacy chain store and the other family run. In the chain store, the lady pharmacist (late 20s) was in a white medical-type gown and a male assistant (MA). I asked the MA if Viagra is available, he said yes and took a box out. $33 Sir. I saw, Kamagra on the shelf and asked to see that as well. This is $1.80 Sir. This is sweet. A couple of words from lady pharmacist and MA corrected himself, it is $1.80 per pill. OK give me 4. I am pleased to report all 4 worked as advertised. Oh the ladies said thank you too.

Walking to the shop one morning, I passed a family-run pharmacy, it was manned by just a guy, also in a white round-neck T. Chinese shops look the same everywhere, in LA, Amsterdam, Malaysia… Seeing he was alone I went up and asked if he has Kamagra. He turned and talked to his mother who was fanning herself in a safari bed behind the counter. Mother said something and he took a box out from the counter, also with a box of Synacis, a generic Cialis also made in India. I took both, the K for $3 for 4 and the Synacis for $5 for 4. Some ladies are going to be very grateful.

Last night we were with Bro Bright on yet another tour of duty around the bars of PP. We started with Sharky. A couple of beers and the girls seemed fuglier. There was this bag of bones with wild eyes and bad teeth, looks like a meth-head, sitting a table away, oh man, she actually smiled at me. Time to go.

I’ve come to notice a pattern. You guys know places like Nana in Bangkok are farang haunts. Although farang means foreigners it usually refers to the Westerners. Not many Asians venture in. An occasional few might but usually don’t stay for long, not because they’re made to feel unwelcome but Asians’ perspective of beauty are, well, ‘a little different’.

Here in PP, however, little of such prejudice exists. In the bars of St 136 and 104, there’s always a nice mix of barangs and Asians – Koreans, Malaysians, Taiwanese. The girls chase the green, not the white or black or yellow.

We started with Angkor beer then graduated to Jagermeister, of which we polished off a bottle and a half, at $3 a pop. That was all they had, so a bottle of Tequila was brought out. Man, Bright could really put it away, VC too, the girls were doing a good job helping us chalk up the bill. Me? I’m a very conservative drinker, hate the hangover the morning after, is why.

I caught the virgin bartender padding the bill. I let her know I know but left it at that. The others were too sloshed by then to notice. I quite like the virgin and it’s really too bad she did that.

At half past midnight, I was ready to go, and we did. Send Bright back to Naga where I expect to drop him off. Things never go as planned and it didn’t. He insisted having us at Darlin’ Darlin’. Posh décor and furnishings, a better than competent Pinoy showband, and tall slim Khmer service staff. I mean I have not seen such a gathering of Khmer beauty in one place, makes me feel so inadequate. I really wished I was taller, slimmer, handsomer and richer. The clientele was a mix of both foreigners and the local rich.

There is a hands–off policy where the service staffs are concerned. Bouncers are always at hand to ‘escort’ drunks who, uninhibited by alcohol, force their charm upon them.

Although shootings are rare now, to buck the trend you don’t want. Bodyguards of the local filthy rich and influential do carry; step on the wrong foot and you might be on the receiving end, and they will get away with it.

Another couple of beers here and it is really time for me to pack it in. It’s been a long week for me and it’s another day at the office for me tomorrow, Sunday.

Re: Khmer Diary

it really is a good read the Khmer Diary. I'm actually considering about visiting Phnom Penh or Siem Reap for the first time. I want to cheong around South East Asia hehehe.

I believe you speak Khmer which is probably why you had so much fun there. As I don't speak Khmer, do you think it will be difficult for me to get some actions (be it paid sex or pick-ups)?

Read about the stunning waitresses, but if I were to pay them for sex, how much would that cost? Finally, any idea if Siem Reap would have a livelier more happening nightlife than PP?

Thanks

My Khmer vocab is at least 400% better than yours coz speak 4 more words than you. Been to Siem Reap once before, like 2 years back. There, I've bared my soul to you. Haha
