Barfine is a non-bailable offence now and the maximum punishment is 20 years jail time and 2 million pesos fine.

OMG. This is dreaded news. Now really contemplating whether to cancel my august trip.

I will be surprise if he is formally charge and throw in jail. Than its time to panic and change strategy and have to make many gf instead....lol

Actually, between now & november is lots of time, so just play by ear first.

Right now, it's obviously very heated but things will cool down with time.

Unfortunately, AC is being used as a example by the authorities, for what reason I don't know.

Look anywhere else in phil and you probably won't find problems with bars or nightlife like those in AC.

Yes, there are rules and regulations but more importantly, are they enforced?

Just seems that AC is like a guinea pig at the moment cos of its reputation as a blatant whorehouse.

I can provide some info on the Baby Dolls raid. I was contacted by relatives of one of the bargirls MC and I managed to have a short conversation with her. MC is in custody together with 15 other bargirls, 2 mamasan, the cashier and the bartender. The customer who was detained with them was an American and not Australian as reported. The owner of Baby Dolls managed to escape the raid although he was there when they came in. He has remained uncontactable. The American was detained because he was caught in the act of handing over the barfine money to MC.

I do not know about the situation with the others detained as I was only allowed to speak with MC and one of the NBI officers. They wanted 100K pesos to release MC..... her crime? She was the one who took the barfine money from the customer to pass to the cashier. I have made arrangements for the payment to be made and MC should be out within the next 24 hrs.

The American is still in custody and I understand they will be transferring him to Manila. The management of LG hotel where he is staying has informed the US Embassy of his situation but there has been no response from them so far.

From the looks of it, he is damned to be a scapegoat for their newly amended law on human trafficking.

The clue is in the newly amended additions to the law. They have reworded the Act and "..... soliciting for the purpose of prostitution" is now interpreted as "human trafficking" according to the new law with the accompanying enhanced penalties.

The new Human Trafficking law amendments put emphasis on the guy paying for sex being liable to be charged...... wherever or however you get your girl.... you have broken the law in the local context. That is my interpretation of the new law.

matter of fact the girls catering to the locals outnumber those who cater to foreigners by nearly 100 times, as per my estimate .. heck, even when i was in a far far away island, after getting buddy with the trike driver, he took me to a bar in that island, and well, locals pay 500 peso for over night, and since I was the first foreigner for them, they decided to give me foreigner price of a princely sum of 1,000 peso, for 2 girls, over night .. well .. now, you think the natives don't know about the local flesh trade ? of course, Dan Brown's book described the flesh trade for locals,not foreigners, but throwing locals into jail will not make anybody rich or get good publicity, di ba ?
