That's Indonesia Central as their consulate is at the corner of Leighton road and Keswick street there and I'd say that at least half of the people who hangs around that stretch between Victoria Park and the circular bridge on Yee Wo Street any Sunday are Indonesian Domestic helpers.

Indonesian restaurants, shops etc abounds there and it should be like shooting into a barrel of fish if you're after Indonesians.

As far as I can remember from reading the newspapers, its pretty well evenly split between Indonesian and Filipinos with only a sprinkling of Thais, Indians etc. And I think there's about a quarter million Domestic helpers in Hong Kong.

Didn't use to be so even just a few years back - used to be that most of the DH's were Filipinos but the Indonesians was quickly to come over - and somehow or another I have the impression that the Indonesians picked up Cantonese very quickly whilst the Filipinos just stuck to their English.

Most of the Indonesian DHs in HK were from Singapore. After getting the work experience and language skills they move over to HK where the pay is easily double what they are getting in Singapore.

My sister's indon maid worked for her for 4 years. When my sister wanted to extend her contract when it expired the maid did not want to carry on..... she told my sister she prefers to go to HK for the extra money.

Yes, this does happen even in Hong Kong - and the "dream destination" for the Filipinos is Canada as they get to work for the minimum wages (whiih works out to be lots more versus HKG/Singapore) there but only for 40 hour work week etc.

Lots also want to get "involved" with some of the foreigners visiting HKg - thus their hanging about Wanchai - in the hope of getting married off to a foreign land

Yes, Hari's is well known as THE place in Kowloon to pick up non-local girls - especially Mongolians. The other place in Kowloon for this type of bar action is Sticky Fingers on Mody Lane (next to a Starbucks and generally in front of the Royal Garden hotel).
