D whole idea of backpacking is to do it cheap n leisurely. The best is can rent motorcycle or electric bike to recce.

Im v keen to travel yr route too, fm luang prabang to xisbana.

Xishuangbanna just like Laos doesn't even have McDonald's or KFC yet!

Yes bro sohbuckkong the fun part is getting to see beautiful scenery along the way.
Sometimes you make some new friends and discover rough gems along your journey.
This current trip around 3 weeks covering parts of Laos, Thailand and China.

My next trip which is probably month end will cover Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam.

I can tell you 99% of the bros here surely unable to do multi stops trip over land like us.
You jio them for a 4 week trip they will say are you xiao arhhh?

The feeling is damn shiok.
Stay at a town or city and leave only when you feel so.
This sense of freedom is priceless.

Plenty in Kunming and Liking but unsure about Dali as it is more an old town for tourists. Just ask the taxi drivers for help. In my last trip in Liking, we managed to get Uni students also and there were the spas offering one dragon services but subject to raids from police.

Cross border travelling in the golden triangle region is perilous and brutal.

Bus halted after jammed by a big piece of rock.

I cheong until nothing to cheong already so I take it to the next level by going to harsh environments hahaha.

My Mekong catfish humsup trip is one of many trips to come covering Laos, Burma, Thailand and Vietnam.
Minimum 2-3 weeks per trip.

Since I basically live in Myanmar now, the most happening still Tachilek in golden triangle.

Mongla not really my cup of tea, but good during winter.
