No. It's not 100% confirmed that a HIV+ mother will give birth to a HIV+ child. That's why all pregnant women are encouraged to go for HIV testing.
There's medication available that will severely reduce the chances of the child being born HIV+.

Btw, there are HIV+ kids in Singapore, just like there are HIV+ men and women.

There's medication available that will severely reduce the chances of the child being born HIV+.

To add on to the above, having HIV- children from couples who are HIV+ is actually rather difficult and expensive.

There's also a technique called sperm washing, to try and 'wash' the virus away from the sperm. Before attaching it to an egg, through IVF but this is not 100% foolproof. And not aware of any places that does this procedure in Singapore.

Re: Anything you want to know about the People who have HIV/AIDS?

How do AIDS patients deal with mental stress after they know they have AIDS? Do a large percentage keep the secret to themselves? What are the percentage of AIDS/HIV patients entering into depression or become mentally ill?

So HIV+ male will not be able to have their own children?

Hi , thanks for the link and info. I had tested at the clinic before and i'm negative. I'm just wondering about the window period. I believe that 12 days exposure is enough as they are using Lab testing but the price which u have to pay is a killer

Ppl with HIV prefer to keep their status confidential because there is too many negative repercussions if its made public. To a certain extent, its personal information. Just like if you had heart diease or diabetes, you don't need to go an announce to the whole world you just deal with it and only inform the necessary people. For HIV, that would be mainly be the spouse and current and previous partners.

No figures are available on % of depressed or mentally ill.

Having HIV doesn't mean that they lose their housing. But their ability to keep their jobs and earn their income might be affected if they don't recieve proper medical care, i.e. if they keep falling ill and have to go hospital because they didn't take their medication. But its a chicken and egg problem, medical cost can be very expensive, and they might not be able to afford the medical expenses in the first place.

Specialist Cost, Blood Check Cost, it depends. Currently only medication is not subsidised.

Thanks bro Afa,

Indonesia, Thailand, Philippine, and other South East Asia countries fully-subsidised Hiv Generic medications. In contrast, the most-advance medical country in south east asia must pay thousands (or hundreds for generics) for medications.

Q:
1. Why not subsidised? is it true that gov said, better use the money to safe tens than one life?
2. Is anyone already tell / feedback / complaint to government about this?
3. Any policy change in the future?

Thanks
