A newbie's visit to Balai
So, first off, I would like to give big kudos to Anal Storm for taking me to a most enjoyable trip to Balai, and showing me the places! I guess I took a huge risk going alone with him, but well, I was not dissapointed that I did trust my instincts after talking to him for awhile, so, fellow brothers who are new to Balai, if you are interested in that island, feel free to tag along with him! Okay, on to the report. Day 1 1100 - 1230 As Anal Storm said, it was a really rough ride to Balai, with huge winds and the general rainy season causing choppy waves, it was like a roller coaster ride for a good part of the journey! That part was fun, and a really badly translated movie played kept my eyes off the lifevest under the seat to the television. So, upon reaching Balai, my first impressions was "Gee, this place needed a renovation or a 1000...", simply because, it looked like Batam a decade ago or so! But I braved on and together, we went to meet the driver. Sadly, I know little malay, and thus, I couldn't really converse with the driver. I don't wish to sound naive here, but he did seem like a nice chap, often joking with Anal Storm. 1300-1430 So, off we went for lunch at a local and rather authentic Nasi Padang place (It seems Balai is littered with these). The food wasn't spectacular, but for roughly 2-4 bucks a person, one can't really complain. Really close by was our hotel, Hotel Parapa (I hope I got the name correct). The hotel is pretty new (I learnt later), and it has all the basic accomodations and is well kept. The room is decently spacious (We managed to squeeze 4 guys in a room) and I believe one of the "nicer" hotels. There were 3 different types of rooms availiable, ranging from SGD$24 to $36. I took the "middle classed" one, which was called the "deluxe room", and it set me back by $32. After checking out the room and placing my bag in the cupboard (Don't forget to take all valuables along with you!) we were off to the fabled villas! The way to the villas were rather... run down, however, upon reaching, there are rows of semi-d's filled with girls for the picking. My current impression on the girls here are that they generally ain't as good looking as those from Batam, but they do have more experience. Dinner was good, and I believe, rather cheap, at "zhi cha" place opposite hotel Paradise. Anal Storm later rushed back to the hotel while I joined his friends for a little karaoke (minus the singing for me) at Paradise. I havn't been to a karaoke joint before, however we had a big room to ourselves (easily able to accomodate a group of 10), which had a computer and projector which displays the video on a huge screen. Oh of course, we had beer. A grand total of 28 cans of Carlsberg beer to be exect. If anything Anal Storm's friends are really really good drinkers, one probably taking 10-15 alone, and me, just 5.

Day 2
Up 'till reaching the villas, Anal Storm was ranting about the girl he got and how good she was, and I believe I will let you guys read his FR on her. 1000-1400 Waking up, I felt really refreshed. Fish soup, bean skin in blacksauce and chicken and liver in sesame oil was for lunch. The soup was good (however the fish not really fresh) and the rest of the stuff was awesome! And the shop is just 5 minutes walk from the jetty, assuming you are willing to bash through a swarm of touters and begging kids to get there. After that, we set off back to the villas. 1430-1600 This time, we went to a row of "villas" closeby to the actual location of villas to take a look-see. I saw some decently looking girls, however, now, due to Anal Storm's girl, my expectations were just a little higher. I realized that I wanted to get a girl who could speak in either english or mandrin!
