Liverpool might have been given a boost ahead of their clash with Manchester United next week - after one of Jose Mourinho's key men Marouane Fellaini suffered a knee injury while on international duty.

It means Mourinho has been dealt a fresh injury concern - with Fellaini's resurgence at Old Trafford seeing him labelled as "undroppable" by large sections of United supporters.


According to the Manchester Evening News, the 29-year-old was substituted in the 29th minute of Belgium's match against Bosnia this evening. He was replaced by Leander Dendoncker after receiving treatment following a knock to his left knee. It is thought he could have suspect ligament damage.

Mourinho is likely to be furious with the injury as he prepares for the trip to face Liverpool in the Premier League next week.

Fellaini scored twice for United as they sank Crystal Palace 4-0 at Old Trafford last Saturday.

He has received a lot of plaudits recently as he continues to replace the injured Paul Pogba at the heart of the United midfield.

The praise for Fellaini hasn't just been coming from Old Trafford - with Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard also highlighting Fellaini's impact this season.

He said: "He’s horrible (to play against). He’s a handful, even when he was at Everton, he was a little bit further forward. He used to back in, get flick-ons, hold the ball up."
