I dun call it traitor.... he might be groomed by Liverpool academic but he served Liverpool for 8 yrs before moving on. In football not a lot of Stevie.

In extreme example, it is like a lot of foreigners come to SG to study sponsored by SG govt. End of their study, companies will employ these and whoever pays well, these foreigners will join. After yrs of working, either they moved on with another companies or go back their own country. Are they traitors?? 人不为己天诛地灭

Loyalty to a club or company is almost none, most are loyalty to money.

Lightning Liverpool and Premier League playing styles

Last Updated: 05/09/17 8:37am

Examining Liverpool's rapid counter-attacks and contrasting Premier League playing styles with new Opta data...

Gary Neville described Liverpool's performance in their 4-0 win over Arsenal as "scintillating" - and their speed in attack will be a real worry for Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola ahead of Saturday's Sky Live showdown.

Reds manager Jurgen Klopp revealed he was eager to add more pace to his squad when Mo Salah was unveiled this summer and the threat of Liverpool's lightning counter-attacks was demonstrated by the new signing's breakaway goal against the Gunners.

The Egyptian hit the net just 12 seconds after an Arsenal corner to make it 3-0 and Opta recorded the speed of Liverpool's move downfield as 9.9 metres per second. That makes it the fastest move leading to a goal in the Premier League so far this season.

But it wasn't a one-off. Of the fastest moves leading to open play goals scored so far in 2017/18, Liverpool have scored four out of 20.

Sequences and direct speed

Sequences are defined as passages of play which belong to one team and are ended by defensive actions, stoppages in play or a shot. Direct Speed is progress (distance upfield) divided by sequence time.
This data comes courtesy of Opta's new analysis of passing sequences and the speed teams can move the ball forwards, known as 'direct speed'. The numbers also paint an interesting picture of the diverse playing styles among Premier League clubs.

Just three games into the new campaign there are significant differences between the sides already.

Stoke and Leicester, for instance, are the quickest at progressing attacks towards the opposition goal, with their moves averaging 1.99 metres per second. However, they use very few passes to do that. On average there are just 2.48 and 2.54 passes per sequence in their moves, respectively.

Of course, that style was a much talked about approach during Leicester's Premier League title win in 2015/16. But compare their methods to Arsenal, who are among the top five teams when it comes to the speed (1.79 m/s) they move the ball downfield yet use 4.38 passes on average.

Simply, Arsenal - unlike any other Premier League team - move the ball towards the final third extremely quickly but with intricate passing movements. Indeed, Arsenal have played fewer long balls than any other Premier League side so far this season (48).

Liverpool's attacks average a very high direct speed of 1.72 m/s, with a mid-range 3.49 passes per sequence.

Arsenal's north London rivals Tottenham use a similar number of passes in their moves (4.48) to the Gunners but interestingly are much slower in moving the ball forwards (1.34 m/s). Spurs - who have the second highest passes per sequence total in the league - have a direct speed about 33 per cent slower than Arsenal's.

Elsewhere, Everton (1.04 m/s) and struggling West Ham (1.05 m/s) are the slowest at moving the ball forwards. Curiously, the Hammers are averaging a similar number of passes per sequence as Burnley and Crystal Palace - who are among the quickest at progressing forwards.

While the sample size is small and teams have had different fortunes with different approaches, Opta's passing sequence and direct speed data shines a light on a diverse league which presents sides with an array of challenges to overcome.

For Manchester City this weekend - themselves the team with the most passes per sequence - the potential threat from pacey Liverpool is clear to see.

Mane event

Sadio Mane has scored in his first three PL games for Liverpool. Will he set a record if he scores v Man City on Saturday? (Jez)

MARTIN SAYS: If Mane scores against City, he will become the 11th player to score in the first four Premier League games of a season and only the second Liverpool player to do so after Daniel Sturridge in 2013/14 (against Stoke, Aston Villa, Man Utd and Swansea).

If Mane scores against Man City and Burnley in Liverpool's next two fixtures he would break the club record, but not the league record.

Wayne Rooney scored in the first FIVE games of the 2011/12 season against West Brom, Tottenham, Arsenal, Bolton and Chelsea; while Arsenal's Jose Antonio Reyes scored in his first five fixtures of 2004/05 against Everton, Middlesbrough, Blackburn, Norwich and Fulham.

That means Mane needs goals against City, Burnley and Leicester to set a new Premier League record.

Longest goalscoring run from start of a PL season

Player Team Season Games
Jose Antonio Reyes Arsenal 2004/05 5
Wayne Rooney Man Utd 2011/12 5
Emmanuel Adebayor Man City 2009/10 4
Darren Bent Charlton 2005/06 4
Diego Costa Chelsea 2014/15 4

Branko Strupar Derby 2000/01 4
Daniel Sturridge Liverpool 2013/14 4

Re: Liverpool Fc @ Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings

Congrats to Mo Salah for been the Liverpool Player of the Month for August. Better than those flop like Benteke.

Stats Prove Liverpool Star Is Bargain Signing of the Season After Fine 1st Month Back in England

Egyptian speedster Mohamed Salah has emerged as the bargain signing of the summer, with the announcement dropping on the same day the player was voted Liverpool's Player of the Month for August.

Salah came in from Italian side AS Roma as a £36.9m summer signing, and has wasted no time showing his worth.

A statement on the Reds' official website reads: "Mohamed Salah has claimed Liverpool's Standard Chartered Player of the Month award for August.

"The summer signing made an excellent start to his competitive Reds career with three goals in five Premier League and Champions League appearances during the period."

The attacker won a penalty and scored against Watford on his Premier League debut, and also got on the score sheet during the Champions League qualifier against Hoffenheim, as well as recording one of the four scored against Arsenal at Anfield two weekends ago.

He garnered 52% of the 32,325 votes lodged on the club's official website, besting Sadio Mane, who came in second place with 20% and Trent Alexander-Arnold, who took up 16%.

According to the folks at the CIES Football Observatory, who conducted a study of the last transfer window, Liverpool got themselves the very best deal of the summer when they signed the Egypt international.

The research looked into the greatest gaps between amounts clubs paid for certain players and what their value was estimated to be. And upon conclusion, it was determined that Salah is worth €20m more than the figure the Reds paid.

Meanwhile, the €180m Paris Saint-Germain have agreed to hand Monaco in exchange for Kylian Mbappe was deemed to be the most overpaid.

Pretty excited about Woodburn too. Hope he gets to play more.

Man City and Liverpool are sharing private jets to ferry the Brazilian home from Columbia.

Re: Liverpool Fc @ Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings

These new signings are to break-down parked double decker bus...

How Liverpool targeted one specific trait in the transfer window - and why they did it quickly

Keita, Oxlade-Chamberlain and Salah all possess something special...

When there was a clamour throughout the summer for Liverpool to sign anybody and everybody, Jurgen Klopp remained calm.

The German coach knew what he wanted and why he wanted it. Aside from Virgil van Dijk, those targeted at the start of the summer have become, or will become, part of his squad at Anfield.

Mohamed Salah was one Klopp desired from an early stage, while he always retained an interest in Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Naby Keita was arguably the player he wanted most and he finally secured him, albeit in a year’s time, in a sensational late deal.

There is good reason that trio were identified and signed.

All three bring something to the line-up which Liverpool lacked at times last season.

The ability to carry the ball at speed; to penetrate deep-lying defences, or ‘low block sides’ as is common phraseology nowadays.

The games in which Liverpool struggled against these tactics are easily remembered. All four games with Southampton, for starters, which yielded no goals. The home stalemate with Manchester United, the 2-0 defeat at Hull, and even the FA Cup draw with Plymouth, all exemplified how the Reds lacked that incision from deep to break through defensive-minded set ups.

No surprise Sadio Mane was absent for all but two of those games, with his start against Hull in February his first in over a month.

But in Oxlade-Chamberlain, Salah and Keita, Klopp has brought players into the club capable of matching what Mane can do when on the ball. The Senegalese star averaged 2.5 successful dribbles per game last season – comfortably better than his nearest team-mates Philippe Coutinho (2.29) and Roberto Firmino (2).

Keita is the standout when it comes to moving the ball past the opposition. Last season, he was second in the entire Bundesliga with 77, putting only Ousmane Dembele above him. It is a similar story this season too, albeit after just two games – with 10 successful, four more than his nearest competitors.

Oxlade-Chamberlain leads the Premier League for successful take ons in this campaign, while he was second in Arsenal’s side last season with 62, with just Alexis Sanchez bettering him.

Salah has already demonstrated his dribbling ability, although it does not necessarily reflect in the statistics from last season, with just 36 completed, putting him third-highest in the Roma side.

Lies, damned lies, and so forth – but there is a clear desire for Liverpool to be quick in transition, their counter-attacks under Klopp often frightening.

Just ask Hoffenheim and Arsenal, both victims to the red arrows at Anfield in the space of four days.

Fresh research from OPTA also shows how Liverpool’s attacks average a speed of 1.72 metres per second – one of the quickest in the league. Salah’s goal against the Gunners was registered at a pace of 9.9 metres per second, the quickest of the season so far, while the Reds have scored four of the fastest 20 goals in the league.

No surprise, then, that Klopp identified players who could fit into this style. The wait for Oxlade-Chamberlain and Keita in red goes on – the Guinean especially – but expect both to make an impression and fit into what Liverpool are trying to do.

Quickly.

That is true players are free to choose who they want to play for . For all you know maybe Liverpool didn't want Owen at that time ?
