Liverpool supporters overwhelmingly vote to support rail seating

Henry Jackson
News
31 July 2017

Spirit of Shankly (SOS), the Liverpool supporters’ union, has today revealed the results of votes for rail seating to be introduced in English football.

The introduction of safe standing to the current game has been a huge talking point of late, with Celtic successfully bringing it to Parkhead last season, and the Bundesliga using it for years.

Rail seating has been discussed by SOS since November last year, and a closed meeting with Hillsborough survivors and those who lost family members was arranged on July 18.

A public meeting took place four days later and voting then followed.

The results of the week-long vote revealed that 88.21 per cent are in favour of safe standing, with only 5.04 per cent against it. The remaining voters were undecided.

A statement from SOS chairman Jay McKenna reads:

“After nine months of discussion, we have now had the vote and it will be taken as the position for Spirit Of Shankly.

“The size of the turnout and majority means that no-one can be in any doubt that supporters have had their say and made an informed decision.”

“The vote is significant and we know people will see this as backing of rail seating.

“However, we say to anyone who is campaigning for this to understand sensitivities and respect the views of those who disagree.

“No-one wins here. This has been a mature and sensitive conversation and we have arrived at a position. Those who have been through incredible heartache and tragedy have every right to be heard and to ask important questions about safety.”

“We’ve always been clear that this was about rail seating areas in football stadiums and not specifically at Anfield.

“Any such discussion is for a future point and requires more talking to those involved – supporters, the football club and, importantly, families and survivors.

“That will inevitably be asked but for now we want to take time to reflect on the vote and allow others to do the same.”

He is NOT for sale” – Jurgen Klopp remains adamant Liverpool won’t sell Philippe Coutinho

Henry Jackson
News
31 July 2017

Jurgen Klopp has once again swatted aside rumours linking star man Philippe Coutinho with a move away from Liverpool this summer.

While talk about the possible signings of Virgil van Dijk and Naby Keita has dominated the summer, Coutinho’s future has been just as big a talking point.

Endless reports have suggested the Brazilian will be a Barcelona player by the end of August, especially if his international team-mate Neymar joins Paris Saint-Germain.

Klopp has consistently said that arguably his most important player will not be leaving Anfield, however, and that stance hasn’t changed one bit.

“He is not available for sale,” Klopp told reporters in Germany, ahead of his side’s clash with Bayern Munich on Tuesday. “There is no other interpretation of that.”

The Liverpool manager also confirmed that the Premier League title is very much the aim going into 2017/18, following last year’s fourth-placed finish.

“Yes, we’ll be going for the championship this season,” he added.

“We don’t start a season by not having any ambitions. We have our goals.”

If the Reds are to mount a genuine league assault this season, keeping hold of Coutinho is absolutely paramount.

The 25-year-old has shown in pre-season what a special talent he is, producing some majestic moments against the likes of Leicester City and Hertha Berlin.

So Klopp says that Liverpool will try to win the BPL title next season . ? If cannot win than Klopp better to resign and go back to Germany .

Biggest test of the summer for the Reds – Bayern Munich vs. Liverpool Preview

Henry Jackson
Match PreviewNews
31 July 2017

Liverpool take on a star-studded Bayern Munich side at the Allianz Arena on Tuesday, as the Reds look for a place in Wednesday’s Audi Cup final.

Bayern Munich vs. Liverpool

Tuesday, August 1, 2017— 7:30pm (BST)
Allianz Arena
Audi Cup, Day 1

In terms of tough matches, this hasn’t been the most testing of summers for Liverpool, but that is about to change.

Jurgen Klopp‘s side are unbeaten in their five pre-season games to date, with Saturday’s 3-0 win over Hertha Berlin their latest triumph, but Tuesday’s battle with Bayern will be a real test of the Reds’ credentials.

Carlo Ancelotti’s team are one of world football’s most dominant forces, with world-class talent everywhere you look.

The fact that they also have home advantage makes it an even more daunting clash for Liverpool, but it is a friendly to savour.

This game should be seen as a positive outing, with the Merseysiders needing to test themselves against sides of Bayern’s ilk ahead of this season’s Champions League.

We will learn a lot more about Klopp’s players on Tuesday evening, whether it be their defensive capabilities, midfield options or attacking threat.

Team News

Liverpool have several injury absentees ahead of the game.

Nathaniel Clyne is a certainty to miss the whole of the Audi Cup with a back problem, and he is also a doubt for the Reds’ Premier League opener at Watford on August 12.

This allows Trent Alexander-Arnold a chance to audition for a start at Vicarage Road, especially with Joe Gomez also sidelined.

Divock Origi is another who will play no part in Germany, due to a muscle issue, and Danny Ings is still not being rushed back.

James Milner has returned to full training after recovering from a thigh injury, so it is likely to be a toss-up between him and new signing Andrew Robertson as to who starts.

Along with Milner, Loris Karius and Dejan Lovren are also available for selection on Tuesday.

Jordan Henderson and Emre Can will tussle for the defensive midfield berth, with the duo both looking in promising form this summer, while Philippe Coutinho could feature in a deeper midfield role again.

Look at the way Mane and Salah sliced out the BM defense and how skillfully they scored.

Pom was pleased to see how Liverpool performed.

But.......as usual, the sick season has started for this famous

The injuries are probably due to fatigue especially with Klopp's triple training sessions and pre season games.
I expect some players to recover and get back on track.
Pleasing results so far but I want to see 2 great signings minimum.

Reds’ attack fires as Moreno impresses – 5 talking points from Bayern Munich 0-3 Liverpool

Jack LusbyJack Lusby
1 August 2017

Jurgen Klopp‘s Liverpool sealed a 3-0 victory over Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich on Tuesday night, as their fine pre-season rolls on.

Bayern Munich 0-3 Liverpool

Audi Cup, Allianz Arena
August 1, 2017

Goals: Mane 7′, Salah 34′, Sturridge 84′

Alexander-Arnold’s Biggest Test at Right Back

With Nathaniel Clyne sidelined for the rest of pre-season and Joe Gomez absent with a knee strain, Klopp turned to 18-year-old Trent Alexander-Arnold as his starting right-back.

Alexander-Arnold, despite making an impressive breakthrough at first-team level in 2016/17, is still largely untested in the role.

And coming up against 34-year-old ex-France international Franck Ribery, with the excellent David Alaba overlapping on the left flank, the West Derby native certainly had his work cut out for him.

Spending the first half prowling the same flank as Klopp, the teenager was urged on by his manager throughout, with the German prompting him when to push and when to drop.

Alexander-Arnold produced some well-timed tackles and impressive surges forward, but still looked at odds with the role at times—though he is certainly developing swiftly.

Moreno Makes a Shot at Redemption

A surprise choice to start ahead of Andrew Robertson, out-of-favour Alberto Moreno lined up at left-back at the Allianz, with James Milner still short of fitness after a thigh injury.

Moreno is widely reported to be set to depart Merseyside this summer, with Napoli having already seen an £11 million fall short of Liverpool’s valuation of the 25-year-old.

But if his performance on Tuesday night is to serve as a yardstick, Moreno is not resigned to leaving just yet, with the Spaniard mustering a fine display both in defence and attack.

Lining up opposite one of world football’s most intelligent players in Thomas Muller, Moreno read the game well and was firm in the challenge, while he retained his sharp attacking instincts moving forward.

It was Moreno’s overlapping run that led to Mohamed Salah’s first-half strike, with the No. 18 drilling the ball into the six-yard area for his new team-mate to head home.

Whether Klopp is still planning for next season with Moreno in mind is questionable, but perhaps the arrival of further competition in Robertson could spur him on to a revival.

Salah, Mane & Liverpool’s Attack

Tuesday provided Liverpool supporters with the first opportunity to see Klopp’s key wingers, Salah and Sadio Mane play together for the first time, and they certainly weren’t left disappointed.

Within seven minutes Mane had his name on the scoresheet, firing home on his left after a swift, impressive break involving some excellent holdup play from Roberto Firmino.

And just under half an hour later, Salah had matched his counterpart’s tally, nodding past Sven Ulreich at the far post following Moreno’s powerful cross.

With both Salah and Mane on the field, Philippe Coutinho was able to thread passes through at will, but more troubling for the Bayern defence was how Liverpool’s attacking talents interchanged.

At times, Salah was up front while Firmino shifted out wide, and when Mane was withdrawn at half-time Coutinho moved back out to the left, highlighting the Reds’ increasing flexibility.

Grujic Flashes Hot and Cold Again

Serbian midfielder Marko Grujic is something of a work in progress under Klopp, readjusting after a difficult first season on Merseyside, hampered by injury.

Having returned later than the majority of Klopp’s pre-season squad due to his commitments at the European U21 Championship, the 21-year-old has taken time to settle this summer.

And Klopp’s reservations over Grujic’s all-around game came to the fore when he discussed his lax attitude in the challenge in July, suggesting he was guilty of “switching off the machine.”

Two instances at the Allianz Arena highlighted Grujic’s potential as a roving, box-to-box midfielder and, in turn, his current deficiencies off the ball.

Latching onto Ryan Kent’s excellent cross to drill home an ultimately overturned third goal, Grujic showcased his knack for arriving at the right place at the right time in attack.

But shortly after, Klopp was cajoling the No. 16 for not reading Coutinho’s pass as the Reds push forward, and it is clear Grujic needs to improve his focus in order to establish himself at Anfield.

Reunion With El Nino Awaits on Wednesday

Prior to the Reds’ 3-0 win, Napoli and Atletico played out a fierce semi-final in the blistering Munich heat, with goals from Fernando Torres and Luciano Vietto sealing a 2-1 win for the latter.

With Liverpool victorious later on, they will now take on Diego Simeone’s formidable Liga challengers in what proves to be a much different challenge than that of Bayern.

And the prospect of a reunion with Torres will be hugely interesting, as the ex-Red enjoys an Indian summer at the Vicente Calderon.

Re: Liverpool Fc @ Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings

Barcelona have confirmed Neymar will be leaving. This could be bad news as well as good news for Liverpool.

Bad news as in Barcelona will aggressively bid for Coutinho. Good news as Coutinho will consider staying at Liverpool since his BFF is almost leaving.

Barcelona is on a downward spiral with an aging squad. They will be desperate for new signings to challenge Real Madrid and in Europe.

Suarez is 31 in January while Messi and Pique are already 30. Mascherano and Iniesta are 33.

I feel we are in a good position should our players stay fit. The first 10 Premier League games will set the pace for us.
