Klinsmann the latest in Chelsea link
Former Germany coach Jurgen Klinsmann has been added to the list of managers tipped to replace Jose Mourinho at Chelsea. Mourinho is determined to see out his contract which has three years left to run. Mourinho and billionaire club owner Roman Abramovich shared a victory embrace in the Old Trafford directors' suite after Chelsea booked a place in the FA Cup final with a victory over Blackburn on Sunday, suggesting that any differences there might have been between the pair had been settled. Nevertheless Klinsmann, who led Germany to the World Cup semi-finals last summer, has been linked with the Stamford Bridge job in the press and Franz Beckenbauer, who won the World Cup as a player and manager with West Germany, believes the former Tottenham striker would 'fit' at the west London club if he is prepared to give up his California home. It is claimed he will be offered a £7million-a-year contract to take over at the club. Beckenbauer told The Sun: 'Jurgen and Chelsea fits but it won't work if he tries to commute. 'Nevertheless if the chance arises for Jurgen he should grab it. At 42, he is a young man who can work at a top club. 'When Jurgen does a job he is engaging and energetic. He still enjoys great respect in England from his time at Tottenham.'

Mourinho 'hid in laundry basket' to beat ban
LONDON, April 24 (Reuters) - Two newspapers related on Tuesday how Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho once allegedly hid in a laundry basket used for transporting the club's kit to get round a UEFA ban covering a big game. The Daily Mail said it happened two years ago when Mourinho had been barred from contact with his players during both legs of a quarter-final Champions League tie against Bayern Munich. He was being punished after indiscretions in the previous round with Barcelona. On the night of the home leg, observers were convinced that Chelsea fitness coach Rui Faria was using an earpiece hidden under a woolly hat to communicate with the manager, the Mail said. Both the Mail and The Times said Mourinho arrived early at the ground, watched the game on a TV in a dressing room and delivered the pre-match and halftime talks. Both papers alleged that about 10 minutes before the end of the game, which Chelsea won 4-2, the manager clambered into one of the laundry skips. He was then wheeled away to Stamford Bridge leisure club where it was claimed he had spent the entire evening. Both papers quoted a Chelsea statement saying: 'The situation is very clear. Both matches were controlled by UEFA and they were more than satisfied on both nights that their ruling was intact, hence the statements that were issued by UEFA at the time and subsequently. 'The only reason to publish this so close to a big match is to serve an agenda that is intended to undermine our team.' Chelsea play the first leg of this season's Champions League semi-final against Liverpool at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday. The Daily Mail said UEFA would not be taking up the alleged episode with Mourinho. The Times suggested they were unlikely to act because of the time lapse. slight chuckle

Re: Chelsea FC - Supporters' Rally
Morose Mourinho almost ready to concede title
Jose Mourinho conceded Chelsea had `almost' lost the their grip on the Barclays Premiership title after failing to beat Bolton at Stamford Bridge. United are now five points clear at the top after fighting back from two goals down to beat Everton 4-2 at Goodison Park and with just three games to play, Sir Alex Ferguson's side are favourites to land the crown. A second-half equaliser from Kevin Davies pegged Chelsea back and despite all their late pressure, Mourinho's side had to settle for a share of spoils in a 2-2 draw. Mourinho declared: 'I feel sad but I have a big game on Tuesday night and that's a good thing in this situation. We have no time to be sad. 'But it is almost lost, almost. In football, almost is always a big question mark. It is not over because mathematically there is a chance and when the chance is there, we have to believe and chase the opportunity you have. 'At this moment we have to win and we have to wait. It is much more difficult. Manchester United, in this moment, feel very, very close. They have to lose two games and we have to win all three. 'They don't feel pressure and feel quite confident. They can come to Stamford Bridge, lose and still be champions. 'They are very, very close to it. But we win things as a team and we lose as a team. We do it together in both the good and bad moments.' Bolton failed to quell rising speculation that manager Sam Allardyce will leave the club in the summer by sending assistant Sammy Lee to face the media after the game. Allardyce is understood to have told chairman Phil Gartside he intends to quit the Reebok Stadium this summer. But Lee said: 'It's just speculation. But Sam has been ill and he didn't travel down with the team - he came down this morning. So that is one of the reasons for my appearance. 'At the moment, as far as we are concerned, it is only speculation. As soon as we know anything about that, we'll let everyone know.' The speculation certainly did not seem to affect Bolton's players who recovered from Chelsea's first-half fightback to snatch the vital leveller. Lee added: 'There's a misconception going around about Bolton. We don't feel we get the credit we deserve. 'But we are just trying to get as high up the table as we possibly can. We are desperate to get into the Uefa Cup and delighted to get another point today. We got into their faces a bit more in the second half.' But while Mourinho had almost conceded the title to Manchester United, Lee insisted that everything was still to play for. He added: 'Until it is mathematically impossible, I am sure Chelsea will keep on fighting. 'I have too much respect for both teams and there is still a lot of football to be played.'

Re: Chelsea FC - Supporters' Rally
Tuesday, May 1, 2007
from the Times 'John Terry, the Chelsea and England defender, made the remarkable disclosure last night that, during recent contract negotiations, he had asked for a clause that would give him the option to take over as Chelsea manager at the end of his playing career. Talks over a new deal collapsed in March as the club refused to meet the captain’s demands, with his request for the managerial clause one of the main reasons for the breakdown. Terry insists that he wants to stay at Stamford Bridge and is confident of signing a new deal in the summer, but he will have to rethink his demands for a nine-year contract as the club’s highest-paid player. Chelsea’s latest offer was a five-year deal worth £120,000 a week and, while there may be some room for negotiation over wages, they will not offer a longer contract to a player already suffering from back trouble. Terry’s commitment to Chelsea and love for the club is indisputable, but for a 26-year-old to discuss his managerial ambitions will be seen in some quarters as presumptuous. “I don’t know about emulating José, but I’d certainly like to manage one day,” Terry said. “When I was speaking about my contract with Chelsea, I was talking about a nine-year contract and maybe with an option to manage at the end of it. It’s the way I want to go, I want to get my badges and make that decision at the end of it.” In a remarkably candid interview, aired on the BBC’s Inside Sport programme last night, Terry revealed a great deal about his life on and off the pitch. The England captain spoke for the first time about unfounded allegations that he racially abused Ledley King, the Tottenham Hotpsur defender, during Chelsea’s Barclays Premiership defeat by their North London rivals in November, in which he was sent off for the first time in his club career. Terry was fined £10,000 after being found guilty of improper conduct for questioning the integrity of Graham Poll, the referee, and while he remains angry at the charge, he is more concerned about the malicious whispering campaign that followed. “I still feel a little bit angry,” he said. “It was my first sending-off of my career and I’m not that type of player. Sometimes it’s easier, sometimes you admit things you don’t feel inside. I used to play Sunday football with Ledley King and it’s disheartening. “At the time of the incident, I got loads of text messages on my phone, after a lot of people thought I was racist to Ledley King and a few other Tottenham players. It certainly isn’t the case. I’d never be that way. People who know me as a person know I’m not like that.” |

Mourinho insists better team were knocked out Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho claimed the Blues were the better team on the night as his side crashed out of the Champions League on penalties to Liverpool. Liverpool won the match on the night 1-0 thanks to Dan Agger's first-half strike which levelled the tie at 1-1. But with neither side able to break the deadlock after extra time, the Reds held their nerve to win 4-1 on penalties with Dirk Kuyt scoring the winning spot-kick. 'It is a moment when everybody has to be strong,' he told ITV. 'They (the Chelsea players) have a lot of reasons to be proud. They did a great run in the Champions League. 'We were the best team today, even against a team only playing for the Champions League. 'In extra-time we were the only team who tried to win, but football is like that and the penalty shoot-out is part of the game.' Mourinho also denied that his comments in the build-up to the game had provided a spur for Liverpool. He added: 'I respected Liverpool always in my words. I don't need to say more and today I think the best team was Chelsea.' the same comments given 2 season ago. buay sian ah

Re: Chelsea FC - Supporters' Rally
wat to do? all we can wait is nxt season.
we have attack minded players but playing defensive style now, practically, we only have a hand on FA cup. but bad feeling tis season we will have only carling cup juz like x-manager claudio ranieri. JM might suffer the same fate as Ranieri. it is sad season and nothing to shout abt.
