Auspicious start to the year of the Goat for the Reds!

Besiktas came well prepared organized and played deep. Liverpool looked pretty good and tight overall albeit still a work in progress team. Best player of the night with very good prospects for both club and country was the young lad Jordan Ibe who also created the winner/penalty.

Abit of naughty behaviour from who else but Super Mario for taking the penalty instead of letting the designated penalty taker Henderson take it, also Daniel looked none too pleased as it appeared that he wanted to take the penalty as well! But credit to Henderson for acting like a true captain and smoothening things out by having faith in Mario and let him take the penalty instead.

Liverpool still have some work to do in the return leg in Turkey, but I think with the form and spirit that they are in, should be enough to carry them through to the last 16.

It is a known fact that Mario Balotelli was the best penalty taker on the field at that point of time.

Having said that, I do echo Steven Gerrard's opinion that is was disrespectful of the Italian to have projected such as image prior to taking the penalty.

He is an absolute disgrace.

Yes, Balo won us the game...but it also show the world that he does not belong here..he is not in anyway a team player...only when you reach Cr7 or messi standard you can be a little selfish and no ones dare to challenge you.

If barca or RM can win games just with two of them then they no need to have 10 other players on the pitch! Back to Balo, i today read the news, as usual/expected...he backs balo for the penalty...not convincingly tough, but what point will this bring to the rest of the team? What is the point of the captain? What will Henderson think? What is the point of strategy and tactics which the Manager is paid to do so if one player keeps ignoring it...

The elite team managers will never approve it on anyone player..just like rooney is elite for Manure, but he still is discipline at his midfield area which doesn't suit him..

This Jordan Ibe looks like a very good promising new prospect. He reminds of Sterling. On the issue of the penalty , it is now even harder for Henderson to stem his authority on the team as a captain. If SG was around this would not have happen.
