ICA advises public not to be deceived by GST scam e-mail from sender "Chen Ping"

SINGAPORE - The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) issued an advisory on Friday (April 1) to warn the public about an e-mail scam.

Some members of the public received an e-mail from a person known as "Chen Ping" who claims to be an ICA duty officer and used the e-mail [email protected]

In the e-mail, the scammer asks that the recipient make payment for Goods and Services Tax (GST) to redeem their postal articles detained by the ICA.

A spokesman for ICA said: "The ICA does not issue tax invoices requesting for GST payment. A police report has been made.

"Members of the public who received such an e-mail scam may also wish to make a police report."

I know of one Thai FL who overstayed in SG more than 10 years ago and until today still cannot step foot back to SG on a tourist visa!

Does anyone know if LTVP holder needs to write in to ICA for permission to take up a full-time learning course in Singapore?

I went to a education centre and they said that my wife has to write in to ICA. Is that correct?

I think your wife need a student pass if full time courses longer than 30 days...the school will help to apply the student pass upon application...

You can try to be her sponsor for some visa application but I think chances will be slim, as overstaying is a serious immigration offence.

Go to NTUC and enrol in their affiliated education centres for the courses..... they have special cabling with ICA for approval
