Fergie: I’ll drop Ronaldo rather than sell to Real...
United are so determined not to sell Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid that they would let him rot on the sidelines “The thing people miss the point about is that I’ve had a couple of meetings with the Glazers,” said Ferguson. “Their attitude is ‘to hell with them’ (Real). They would sit a player in the stand. There’s absolutely no doubt about it. They’d do it just to prove a point and not to give in to these people. They’ve got balls, I can tell you. I’ve been delighted with them in that respect.”

Re: Manchester United's Headliners, Articles and Rumours
Papers: Ron off in a year?
04/06/2008 08:24 Ronaldo: I'm off in a year Cristiano Ronaldo has told friends: “If I don’t leave Manchester United now, I certainly will in a year.” The Portugal winger and his agent Jorge Mendes are now considering their get-out strategy. Ronaldo believes that having now won the Champions League and Premier League double it is the right time to chase his dream of joining Real Madrid. The 23-year-old may have to concede staying at Old Trafford for one more season. But it seems inevitable that he will leave sooner rather than later. - Neil Custis, The Sun

Re: Manchester United's Headliners, Articles and Rumours
Cristiano Ronaldo has spoken of his admiration for Real Madrid in a candid interview that will alert the Spanish giants and alarm Sir Alex Ferguson.
Madrid have made no secret of their admiration for the PFA and Football Writers' Player of the Year and it would appear the feeling is reciprocated - with Ronaldo refusing to rule out playing in Spain in the future. A wonderful campaign for the Portuguese has seen Manchester United retain the Premier League title, while they could make it a double on Wednesday evening should they see off Chelsea in the UEFA Champions League final in Moscow. It was only earlier in the week that Ronaldo moved to play down speculation over a switch to Madrid, with the 23-year-old keen to reaffirm his commitment to Old Trafford. Madrid have consistently voiced their interest and reports have suggested they would be prepared to part with in the region of £100million. Ronaldo admits he will weigh up his future after the Moscow showpiece, having conceded his love of Spanish football. "It is always important that other teams like you, it gives you motivation. The other teams say your name all the time, say they will give you this - it is good," Ronaldo told Sky Sports News, when quizzed on Madrid's interest. "I have said 1,000 times, I am very happy here. I want to stay in Manchester. This is my role but the future - nobody knows. Only God knows. "I have said 10,000 times I have a dream to play in Spain, but sometimes dreams do not come true. I still dream, I still dream. "I am happy at Manchester United, but the future? You never know. When pushed on whether he could guarantee United supporters that he will be in Manchester next season, Ronaldo offered: "I am happy here, but the future - who knows?" - Sky Sports.

Re: Manchester United's Headliners, Articles and Rumours
Manchester United winger Cristiano Ronaldo has claimed he 'wants to play for Real Madrid' -, according to respected Brazilian website Terra - and has vowed not to discuss the subject further until after Euro 2008.
Terra claim to have carried out an exclusive interview with the Portugal international in which he said: 'I would like to play for Real Madrid but only if it is true they are ready to pay what Manchester United ask of them. 'However, it does not depend on me.' The interview continued with Ronaldo stating his hope that the announcement would bring closure to the speculation linking him with a possible move to the Bernabeu. He added: 'From today I'm not going to talk about this topic with anyone at all. 'I'll only talk about this again after the European Championships. Don't ask me any questions because I won't answer.' Should the report prove correct then it would be a huge blow to United who have repeatedly insisted their star player would still be at Old Trafford for the 2008-09 campaign. Ronaldo, 23, scored 42 goals for the Premier League and European champions last season. It could also spark a major row between United and Madrid with the Red Devils stating last month they may report the Spanish club to FIFA for making their pursuit of Ronaldo public. Madrid president Ramon Calderon conceded yesterday the signing of Ronaldo 'seems impossible' but could now step up attempts to sign the former Sporting Lisbon man. One player who is keen to be reunited with Ronaldo is Madrid's former United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy, who told Spanish daily paper Marca: 'He'd be an important signing for Madrid because this is a club which signs the best players in the world, and that's what Cristiano is. 'Cristiano could bring a lot of things to this club. He's young, he has everything and a long sporting career ahead of him. 'For Madrid he would be a great signing.'

Let me go to Real
Real or not? With transfer fee bandied around record gbp74mil (net wages SAME). Purported weekly gbp300k too? Out of this planet, so my gut feel is OT will trade. Young man feels he achieved everything with red devils, now at cross roads for yet another milestone?
Let me go to Real From tabloid Sun Let me go to Real | The Sun |HomePage|Sport|Football From Independent The clearest indication yet that Cristiano Ronaldo has set his heart on leaving Manchester United for Real Madrid emerged yesterday when the player effectively told the Spanish side to pay the asking price to release him. Ronaldo's apparent first open discussion of his future, with a Madrid-based Brazilian journalist currently in Switzerland, has delivered the first direct suggestion from the player himself that he wants to leave. "I would like to play for Real Madrid but only if it's true they are ready to pay what Manchester United ask of them," Ronaldo said. "However, it does not depend on me. From today I'm not going to talk about this topic with anyone at all. I'll only talk about this again after the European Championships. Don't ask me about it again because I won't answer." The words were provided on Wednesday night to Julio Filho, a Madrid-based journalist for the Brazilian website, Terra, who is known to be close to Acaz Fellegger, the agent of Portugal national manager Luis Felipe Scolari. One theory in Portugal is that Scolari encouraged their publication, in order to get the subject dealt with before Portugal's opening game in the tournament, in Geneva tomorrow. Filho, a mainstream journalist, also works for the official Uefa website. Last weekend Ronaldo promised his decision by Tuesday or Wednesday and the issue of his future with United seems to be coming to a head in precisely the timeframe he has been predicting for several weeks. There is a suggestion in some quarters that the player was infuriated by Sir Alex Ferguson's suggestions, last week, that the Glazer family are prepared to let the player "sit in the stand" rather than leave United for Real. One report suggests this has contributed to an unwillingness on the player's part to meet Ferguson at Portugal's training camp to discuss the situation – despite a willingness on the part of Scolari to receive the United manager. Ferguson and his assistant flew to Switzerland to talk to him after he was involved in Wayne Rooney's sending-off for England at the last World Cup. Since United – who were last night maintaining their stance that Ronaldo will remain at the club for the foreseeable future – say they are not prepared to sell at any price, the player's comments do not necessarily make his departure imminent. But they are storing up a profoundly difficult period for the club when Ronaldo returns to Manchester – after United's pre-season tour of South Africa and Nigeria, should Portugal progress beyond the Euro 2008 quarter-finals. Ronaldo's mother, Dolores, did little to clear up the picture when, at Lisbon airport on her way to out to Portugal to see her son play in the tournament yesterday, she said: "He should stay in Manchester." The player's Spanish girlfriend said this week she was confused about his intentions. Madrid's president, Ramon Calderon, having publicly declared on Monday that they could do nothing about a transfer if United did not wish to sell, will now be encouraged to offer a world record fee – £64m is a figure which many in Spain believe Real are prepared to pay – and test the resolve of the English champions to keep a player who scored 42 goals last season as they won the Premier League and Champions League. Ferguson will certainly not be enjoying his holiday in France as much as he should on the back of those triumphs. He is already furious about Real's attempts to destabilise his player through a series of leaks to the Madrid-based daily sports newspaper Marca. Ferguson's mood will certainly not have been improved when former United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy – who left Old Trafford under a cloud – suggested his old team-mate should join him at Real. Van Nistelrooy said: "For Madrid it would be a very important signing because it is a club that signs the best players in the world and that is what he is. Cristiano can give so many things to the team. He is young and he has everything." Ferguson considers United to be victims of a Real conspiracy. "It's intimidation of us," he said recently. "We've reported it, but Fifa don't bother. Real are so powerful and it's become accepted. Believe me, he will not be leaving here in the next two years at least. No question." Ronaldo has not given a press conference since Portugal arrived at their training camp to prepare for tomorrow's match against Turkey and he will not appear today, when Scolari and Nuno Gomes will inevitably be questioned about the issue. A Portuguese Football Association spokesman clashed yesterday with a British journalist who dared to raise the issue. "We're here to prepare for the European Championship and these are club affairs," the spokesman said. "If you ask me if this is having any effect on the team I'd have to say no. He is training with a lot of joy." Ronaldo did appear to be enjoying himself on the Neuchatel Xamax pitch yesterday evening. While he was training, Gilberto Madail, president of the Portugese FA, said: "Our problem is to have the best of Ronaldo at Euro 2008. Ronaldo is a big boy. He thinks for himself."

Re: Manchester United's Headliners, Articles and Rumours
Well... I think the transfer fee should be at least 100million pound. So that we can get more players.
Real with Robben and Ronaldo on the flanks... Can you imagine? Man Utd is not good enough for him. Let's hope RVN starts scolding his father again...

Will be interesting to see if Fergie and Glazers follow through with their threat to sit the boy in the stands for the next 4 years.

Re: Manchester United's Headliners, Articles and Rumours
Premier League - Ferdinand fears Ronaldo exit
Manchester United winger Cristiano Ronaldo's apparent 'come-and-get-me' plea to Real Madrid has left Rio Ferdinand fearing for the future of the Old Trafford side. The 23-year-old, currently preparing for Euro 2008 with the Portugal squad in Switzerland, scored 42 goals for the Premier League and European champions last season - and is widely considered the best player in the world on current form. Real Madrid have launched a relentless pursuit of the former Sporting Lisbon player this summer, and it appears they have managed to turn the head of Sir Alex Ferguson's star turn. "I would like to play for Real Madrid - but only if it is true they are ready to pay what Manchester United ask of them," Ronaldo told Brazilian website Terra. "However, it does not depend on me." News of Ronaldo's desire to play for the Spanish giants, whether this season or next, was greeted with dismay by England captaincy candidate Ferdinand who insists United must keep hold of key men if they are to build on this term's double success. "This team can get better but we need it to stay together." Ferdinand told The Sun. "We have worked hard to get to the position we are in and want to build on the success we have had. That means keeping all the players at the club." It could also spark a major row between United and Madrid, with the English club stating last month they may report the La Liga side to FIFA for making their pursuit of Ronaldo public. Madrid president Ramon Calderon had conceded the signing of Ronaldo "seems impossible" but could now step up attempts to sign him. But the Portugal international has vowed not to discuss the subject further until after the European Championships in Austria and Switzerland, which get under way tomorrow. "From today, I'm not going to talk about this topic with anyone at all," he said. "I'll only talk about this again after the European Championships. Don't ask me any questions, because I won't answer." One player who is keen to be reunited with Ronaldo is Madrid's former United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy, despite the fact a rift between the two was reportedly one of the reasons why the Dutchman was allowed to leave Old Trafford in 2006. Van Nistelrooy told Spanish daily paper Marca: "He'd be an important signing for Madrid, because this is a club which signs the best players in the world - and that's what Cristiano is. "Cristiano could bring a lot of things to this club. He's young; he has everything and a long sporting career ahead of him. "For Madrid, he would be a great signing."
