You can try asking the person when choosing the girl. In some places, you may need to deposit your devices, then you'll end up unable to communicate if you can't speak Japanese at all. This is quite common for Sekukyaba, some test your Japanese before allowing you in (I failed at 3 places haha).

Assuming you passed the conversational Japanese test at at least one place before, may I ask how difficult is it? Do they expect you to be fluent or they will let you in if you are capable of basic communication in Japanese?

For some, basic communication is enough. It is not really easy. Mostly they want you to understand the rules, explain what you can do or not do in there, and your preferences. Sometimes they will try to make a simple chat with you. For those that need you to deposit your devices, your chances are slim.

During my previous trip to Tokyo, I booked a personal 1-1 tour guide where I could specified the places which I wanna go and the guide brought me there. It was a hell lot easier as I could dine at some places where usually only locals go to.

It was also much better than following those tour packages as I could customize the locations/restaurants according to my own preferences
