MICAH RICHARDS is on his way to Chelsea in an £18million deal.

Blues boss Jose Mourinho has made Manchester City’s young England star his top target.

Chelsea’s defence — without crocked skipper John Terry — has leaked six goals in three league games as they have slipped four points behind Manchester United at the top.

Richards, 18, has not been pushing to quit but City need the money and will cash in on their right-back in the January transfer window.

The clubs have all but agreed the fee and Mourinho plans to throw him straight into his team in central defence.

City boss Stuart Pearce admitted after Richards’ sensational international bow in November he saw the player as a future centre-half and Mourinho clearly agrees.

A troubling back injury to England skipper Terry, 26, has made Mourinho’s need even more urgent.

Terry may require an operation which could put him out for three months.

Mourinho said: “To lose our goalkeeper Petr Cech and John Terry at the same time is a very difficult problem to solve.

“We sold William Gallas and Robert Huth in the summer and don’t have enough cover so at this moment we are having problems.”

transfer rumour:

ben haim target for chelsea as a cover in central defence.
since chelsea has a weak defence wifout terry, go for more offensive play lah.
opponents score 1 goal, we score 2 goals loh. bombard the opponents.
if not get a young potential lad to d line up, try it out. maybe we can discover another terry.
