Zone phone... I was dumb back then. My dad bought a zone phone and all outgoing calls are free (or so I thought ). I started using his phone to secretly call the 1900 chatlines.. and received a 600+ phone bill.. was 18 Then. Lol

Luv this thread, really brought back the memories of the good old days!
* The pager evolved from the bulky black to the cute handy pinky motorola pager. * The code range from I love you (512), I miss you (1-177155-4), reached/ "kao liao kao liao"(9696), urgent (999) (I luv to page in the continuous of 10-20times in a row just to irritate them.) * Always meet at the last cabin at the station and if really wait for a long time, u will just search for the public phone and page *9696. * U will always keep a public phone card in your wallet. The bengs are the "in" ones and cool to be seen with while the nerdy ones are those that gals will not even take a second glance. This is what it takes to be a successful Bengs of those days. * Bengs don't use real name, they will use nicks preferably with a "boy", boy boy, dragon boy, ah boy, boy boy78, another popular one will be "xiao", xiao ding dong, xiao lang, xiao di, xiao kia, xiao ..... and also "ah", ah whatever with one initial of the dialect name. * The "in" language is Hokkien, it will be even better if you could spout a string of Hokkien vulgarity in a single breath. I always find it amazing when they could really flap Hokkien with no commas and full stop. * Bengs luv to be seen in a clique with like-minded Bengs and the entourage of lians following behind machiam like walking on a parade. The bigger the group, the more they will "walk with wind" with hands swinging high in the air, this is what we called "sa ba luck, qi ba li". If you encounter groups like this, do not ever STARE or u will be greeted with "kwa simi LJ"  * Bengs really love to comb a high M center parting (long enough to tuck behind the ears) they will gelled it and blow till really high like a wave and best part is, the higher the better and just dyed it brown (yes, only the fringe part), and the adventurous ones will even keep 2 strands of side burn at the side, u could just keep a really long single strand and coil it several times around the ear. The really disastrous ones will tuck a thin hairband in between. * Bengs luv colour jeans, light blue, yellow, green, red fold it till to the calf and wear it with conserve sandals, they will usually roll up their shirt as well revealing their skinny tattooed arms. The matching top will always be a white bottom shirt, burberrys/polo ralph polo tee. * Bengs luv accessories and to doll up. Their ear piercings could be comparable or more than the lians. They also have a habit of keeping the last pinky nail for scratching purpose. While scratching, u cant help but to notice the the huge dragon engraved rings on the fingers paired with that big chunk of gold plated necklace on the neck. Somehow it is quite eye catching to see the disco light shining down on him like a xmas tree while he groove on the dancefloor with 2 packs of ciggy tuck at the shoulder and 1 stick stuck behind the ear. They luv to use gasoline zippo. Be wary if u borrow a light from them, hold from a distance before u ever light up, the flame of the light might burn your eye lashes or even eyebrow. Somehow u could spot a burn mark on their cheek, eyelid, partial burnt eyebrow etc. * Long before when planking and halem shake are in trend, it's the ah beng squat. Real bengs don't really sit, they squat. They could squat everywhere, on pavements, curbs, roadside, staircases, mrt, toilet bowls, u name it, they squat it, best with a ciggy on hand puffing away. * Unlike the craze in Korean boy bands like now, bengs dont like sissy boy bands, the idol of those days was Ekin Cheng in young and dangerous, bengs aspired to be like him in terms of appearance and guts. However despite of their gung ho appearance, bengs could be romance freak too and if they are in luv with their lians, they could be very affectionate, composing cheesy love lines too and end their every sentence with 我爱你， mushy enough to raise goosebumps. On top of them, they are very loyal to their brothers and treasure friendships that is hard to come by these days.
