Girona 1 - 4 Barcelona : Lamine Yamal scores brace as Barcelona thrash Girona
Barcelona's Lamine Yamal struck twice in the first half to help deliver a commanding 4-1 win at Girona on Sunday that extended their perfect start to the season with a fifth consecutive win. Yamal gave Barça a two-goal lead with strikes in the 30th and 37th minutes while Dani Olmo extended their advantage right after the break with a first-time effort from close range. Pedri scored the fourth with a tap-in in the 64th minute while Girona substitute Cristhian Stuani netted a consolation goal in the 80th, six minutes before Barca were reduced to 10 men when forward Ferran Torres was given a straight red card for a nasty studs-up challenge on Yaser Asprilla. AS Monaco 2 - 1 Barcelona : Ten-man Barcelona lose to Monaco in Champions League opener
Barcelona made a disappointing start to their Champions League campaign by losing 2-1 to AS Monaco at Stade Louis II on Thursday after suffering an early blow from defender Eric Garcia's dismissal. Garcia pulled back Takumi Minamino when the Japan forward intercepted a panicky pass out from Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen. Monaco take the lead in the 16th minute through midfielder Maghnes Akliouche. Akliouche, who represented France at the Paris Olympics, scored from the right side of the penalty area with national team coach Didier Deschamps watching. Teenage superstar Lamine Yamal equalize for Barca in the 28th with a fine left-footed strike from the edge of the penalty area. Adi Hütter made a series of substitutions after the break, with one of them putting the home team in front once again. Twelve minutes after replacing Breel Embolo, 18-year-old Nigerian George Ilenikhena raced onto Vanderson's long ball before firing past goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen. (excerpt from ESPN Soccernet)
