Thumbs up Serious Health Minister say Chinese herbs can help ageing in Zikapore

An honorable member of the Coffee Shop Has Just Posted the Following:

Ok, if he gets a stroke next time, how about he ask for only TCM to be used on him?

SINGAPORE: Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has the potential to play an important role in meeting the challenges of Singapore's ageing society, said Health Minister Gan Kim Yong on Sunday (Oct 23).
Speaking at an international conference on the modernisation of Chinese medicine, the Health Minister noted that acupuncture, for niche areas like pain management and stroke rehabilitation, is now available at public hospitals.
However, he added that with the increasing demand for TCM treatments in Singapore, the standards of professionalism must continue to be raised.
Mr Gan said accumulating evidence-based research was key to TCM's continued development and the integration of "education, clinical practice and research" is essential in the modernisation of the field.
Also speaking at the conference, World Health Organisation Director-General Margaret Chan, commended Singapore's progress in TCM, saying the country had pioneered some good policies over the years.

In particular, Dr Chan said Singapore's regulatory control of traditional Chinese medicine contributed to modernising the profession.

The sustainability of health services is a concern globally and TCM is one way to reduce the burden on health services, the director-general added.
