SDP Starting Another 3-Corner Fight! PE By-election all over again!
An honorable member of the Coffee Shop Has Just Posted the Following:
Quote: During SDP’s Campaign launch press conference today, Secretary General Chee Soon Juan explained that his party plans to contest in all the same constituencies as the last general election in 2011. He also said that they are considering contesting in Tanjong Pagar as well. In GE2011, SDP contesed in Yuhua and Bukit Panjang SMCs as well as Sembawang and Holland-Bukit-Timah GRC. It was unsuccessful in winning any of these constituencies. Dr Chee was candid about where he planned to contest saying that it was still “premature” to comment on that but he noted that this next election, which his party believes will be held in the last quarter of this year, will be an “interesting contest”. Dr Chee himself has been previously disallowed to contest in an election as he was an undischarged bankrupt following the hefty damages that he was ordered to pay Lee Kuan Yew and Goh Chock Tong following the 2001 general elections. He recently discharged his bankruptcy in 2012 and is now allowed to contest in elections. SDP announced that their election campaign slogan would be “Your Voice in Parliament” and it would be introducing its candidates at a pre-election rally in Hong Lim Park in October. At the press conference, the Party also reiterated many of their policies in areas including Healthcare, Wages, Population, Education and more to show that they have robust, alternative policies. Mr Chee also commented that he is “excited” about the prospect of leading SDP into the next elections and being able to present his party’s alternative policies to the people of Singapore. “We have the opportunity to effect change and take Singapore up a different path. One that is democratic, dynamic, just, equal and compassionate," he said. SINGAPORE - More than 20 members and supporters joined Singaporeans First (SingFirst) on Sunday morning as the new political party held its debut walkabout in Tanjong Pagar GRC, a stronghold of the ruling People's Action Party (PAP). - See more at: http://www.straitstimes.com/news/sin....n6TorI0G.dpuf Click here to view the whole thread at www.sammyboy.com. |
