Thumbs up Prince Philip: Don't give me a state funeral please

An honorable member of the Coffee Shop Has Just Posted the Following:

Prince Philip has said he doesn't want the 'fuss' of lying-in-state ahead of a full state funeral.

Instead of being placed in Westminster Hall his body is expected to lie in St James's Palace where Diana, Princess of Wales, was laid for several days after her death in 1997.

While arrangements for the Duke of Edinburgh's death are kept under constant review, the indication that he doesn't want the regalia of a state funeral will come as a relief to staff at the Palace of Westminster.

They are kept on constant alert in case the Hall is needed for a funeral and must be able to have it ready with just six hours notice.

A full refurbishment of the Palace of Westminster after the next election means that the whole building may have to close entirely while repairs are carried out.

The last Royal to be given a full state funeral was the Queen Mother in 2002. Around 200,000 mourners filed past her body when it was placed in the historic Hall, build by William II in 1097.
