Walking back to school, I was fuming....

I pager beeped and there was a voicemail.

I went to the nearest public phone and Listened to the Msg, It was nothing much but a soft whispering I missed you from Christina.

That soft whispering message totally changed my mood, I returned her a voicemail saying that I missed her too and asking her when her parents will be back.

She reply with another voicemail which somewhat disappointed me.

Christina's voicemail: Think they are back already...

I went to class and my mind was filled with Christina, I did try to focus in some of the classes but most of the time I was thinking about her.

Finally the day ended, and I was planning to page Christina once I got out of school.

As I exit the school gate I saw Joanne, I ignored her and walked on. She did not say anything and just quietly followed behind me.

I could not proceed with my initial plan to page Christina as she followed me nor did I ask her to quit following me as my peers were all around me.

I took the bus and she stood quietly beside me, I alighted the bus she followed...

I turn to her, glaring into her eyes.

Me: What you want now?
Joanne: Di, I want to talk...
Me: Follow me...

I walk towards a small park in my estate, we found a quiet corner and she sat on a bench.

Me: what more you want to talk about?
Joanne: Di I......
Me: Stop calling me Di, I not your Di!! I don't need a Jie that use me to get back at others.
Joanne: Then what you want me to do now then you can forgive me?
Me: I don't know....(my eyes were getting red)
Me: If you want to make use of me why didn't you cheat me all the way.....
Joanne: I don't mean to...
Me: but you did..... I loved you Joanne, I really did....

Saying that I walked off and went home, Joanne followed me a bit before squatting down. I believe she too were in tears.

[Starter]

Upon reaching home, I was surprised to find my parents back so early.

My dad asked me to prepare to go, and I gave him a puzzling look.

Dad: Your Grandaunt's Granddaughter getting married we going Malaysia, you forget ah.

Dad: What happen your eye why red red?

Me: No lah, a lot of school work I cannot catch up I don't think I want to go.

Mum: He want to study let him stay and study we have to go wait missed the coach.

Dad: okok, Here this 100 Dollar you take and use, we come back Sunday night.

After my parents left the home, I waste no time and paged Christina immediately.

but she only returned call a while later...

Christina: Why miss me huh???
Me: Ya lor, tell you something my parents went overseas. You want to come over?
Christina: erm cannot leh, now I having dinner with my parent later must stay at home be good girl.
Me: orh (super disappointment)
Christina: See how lor, Maybe I go over tomorrow ok? then after that we go Tea dance with the girls.
Me: Ok lor.....

We hung up and I went to the kitchen opened a pack of Maggi cooked with some ketchup and had my dinner.

I was watching TV at home, when my pager beeped.

Could it be that Christina had a change of mind?

I sprint towards my pager, it was a unfamiliar number.

I called back and a girl answered the call.

Me: who paged

Girl: you who?

Me: You page me you ask me I who?

Girl: I Sonia lah, who are you.

Me: orh..... me lah Lawrence.

Sonia: Virgin ah, okok I need your help.

Me: What help you need?

Sonia: You stay Bishan Right?

Me: Ya, Why?

Sonia: You $20 with you?

Me: I have, so what help you need?

Sonia: Can go Junction 8 security office help my friend, please please.

Me: Huh?

Sonia: Please help me la, I cannot go out now and only you return my call, Please......

Me: Go there do what?

Sonia: Help her pay can already, I will pay you back. Oh, Don't let Christina Know ok? okok I cannot talk already thanks hor.

Before I can say anything Sonia hung up on me.

I walk toward Junction 8, in my mind I was cursing and swearing. Christina never come never mind, now got to handle this shit. Sonia friend I also don't know. Somemore so secretive cannot let Christina know. I felt stupid as I reached junction 8, and for the first time in my life I asked the directions to the security office at the information counter. I followed the instructions and arrived at the security office.

I knocked on the door and entered the office, there where 2 security officers and a girl sat beside the table. The girl starts glaring at me, and I realized the Friend Sonia spoken off was Felicia.

Security A: Yes Young Man, What can I help you with.

Me: I am here for Felicia

Security A: Oh.... Ms Felicia is it..

Security B looked at Felicia: I thought you say sister come then this one is who?

Me: Oh Sister busy so ask me to come, I am the brother.

Security A: okok, never mind you sit down and we talk.

Felicia was glaring at me this whole time, I think the Security guards have noticed it.

Security A: The reason why you are ask to come is that Ms Felicia was caught shoplifting, normally we will hand to police but since she is still young, we try to resolve lah.

Me: Ok, I brought the money to pay.

Security A: No no no.... young man, this is not about paying or not. This is about your sister, this kind of case uncle see a lot. Uncle tell you she wants the family's attention, Maybe she feel you all don't care or love her enough that is why this happen. Now she seeking attention, you must respond! You are her brother you must show her more love. If you dun respond later it will become a habit. and when it become a habit you cannot do anything already...( I shall not bore you guys with the Security officers Counselling session)

He went on for 30 mins and indicated the shop owner was kind enough to let the matter rest.

I insisted in paying for the Item and realized it was just a cheap necklace with a pixie pendant.

We were escorted to the shop where I paid for the item and all was over. I thanked the security officer and there was silence between me and Felicia.

Felicia: Why you come?

Me: Sonia ask me to come lor

Upon hearing Sonia's name Felicia ran off to the phone booth, and left her a voicemail informing her that she is now safe.

She hung up and turn to me... even if it was a little soft I can hear her say thank you.

I took the chance trying to bury the hatchet between me and Felicia

Me: Huh what you say?

We went to macdonalds and as the store was closing, I bought a takeaway nuggets meal for her, we walked out of Junction 8 and sat down on a long bench outside the shopping centre.

Felicia opened the bag and look at the contents.

Felicia: Only one set ha, then you eat what?

Me: you eat lah, I ate already...

Felicia started to eat, and I was looking at her.

Felicia: Oei can don't look at ppl eat.

Me: Ok..ok.. (I looked away)

Felicia: You know I never expect that it is you that came to help me. (I too never expected myself to be involved in this kinda business a t that time)

Me: I also don't know is you.....

Felicia: if you know, you won't come right?

Me: I think I will still come....

Felicia: Liar...... (that moment I can see a weak smile on her face, one that I have not seen for a long time.)

Felicia finished her meal and I walked her to the station.

Me: you going home already right?

Felicia: Ah Bo,

Me: Eh, stretch out your hand.

Felicia: Huh?

I placed the necklace on her hand.

Me: For you. okok go back lah late already.

Felicia: Give to your GF la.

Me: I don't have la

Felicia: That Joanne leh?

That moment silence surrounded the 2 of us.....

Me: Just take it....

I walked off, yes Felicia hit the spot, she spoke of someone I never wanted to think about at that time....
